So.. do you tend to talk down to or baby talk to your pets? I usually don't. I try and talk to them as I would anybody. Used to drive my ex-girlfriend mad. He doesn't understand a word of what you're saying, she'd say, yet the dog liked me better and would behave better for me The cat too, lol! so.. how about you?
 and how would that sound exactly? I used to pretend the dog talked to me and I'd translate for him, like: Can't a puppy get any sleep around here?! Or, Bring me back a Whopper with Cheese! That used to drive the GF nuts too
I do to my hamster. She can't understand what I say but she'd think I was being mean if I talked normally to her. :/
Then again she may understand more than you think and think you're an idiot.. I swear my bird understands alot of what I say. He flies away whenever I say I need to open the window behind him, lol!
when i say...."do you want to eat" to my cat the thing comes running through walls. you gotta think its all in voice inflection and tone is what they hear...right?
I saw one parrot at my friends place and he was scolding you when you said bad word on him, and he was using abusive words, so it is true that they are not fools
I talk to our kittens (2 of them) all the time... For example: I'll say "Get off the desk, you arent suppose to be up there" and they will get off the desk so i think they understand. The boy though is something else, he just likes to stare you down and look at you like an idiot and the girl kitty is so adorable and she thinks she is the boss.
Definitely! The only setback to me is that I use the same language for kids and dogs that I sometimes switch a puppy's name for a one-year old! Happened to me a couple of times already.
I only baby talk pets when I'm saying something bad, like calling my dog brain dead, or letting my cat know what an annoying pest I think she is.
I talk normally to my pets...apart from sometimes to one of my kitten (well I suppose hes a cat now hes more than a year old, isn't exactly kitten like anymore) simba...I sometimes rawr at him if he rawrs at me (by rawr it's more like a meow...with a big yawn).
