A New Kind of Wage Slave
Corporations are getting rich using federal prisoners as captive labor pools.

    Excerpt
This is the ultimate in fascism. The government creates thousands upon thousands of laws, prosecutes and imprisons hundreds of thousands of non-violent offenders, and they become a slave labor pool for corporations.

In California, the biggest lobby is the Prison lobby. They contribute more money than larger lobby groups relative to their size. Why? California has a lot of people in jail....

As always, I maintain where there is no victim, there is no crime.

I don't see anything wrong with making prisoners work. I very much doubt that governments makes laws just so people will break them and get thrown in jail for the cheap labor. It is expensive to keep someone in prison. It is good that some of the costs can be recouped by making prisoners work.

You didn't even read the article.

The prison industrial complex doesn't work to pay for itself. That said, if you understand the principles against slavery, then incarcerate someone against their will, and then forcing them to work for your profit (or to keep themselves incarcerated) is immoral.

If you doubt very much that the government makes laws just to keep prisons full, ask yourself why the Prison industry is one of the biggest special interest groups, and why America has more people in jail than Russia and China.

Prison is a racket. Ever have someone in jail call you? Highest phone bills of my life and they were in the same town. In my state, if I write 3 bad checks I could do more time than if I kill someone drunk driving.

    That's pretty wild.

Prison is definitely a for profit venture, no doubt about that.
