Will Floyd Mayweather be successful in UFC?

    Hi folks,
Floyd Mayweather has retired from boxing and there is a big rumor going on that he might actually sign a deal with UFC. If he does, it will be the biggest USP for UFC and it might boost their ratings.

However, my question is - do you think he will be successful in UFC? I personally feel he might get his ass kicked in UFC. He is just a boxer whereas UFC fighters are trained in grappling, punching, kicking, and wrestling submission maneuvers. So, I think Floyd might not be successful. What do you say?

I don't think he will be much of a threat in the octagon. UFC fighters are more well rounded than Floyd.

Yep; you're right. Especially, if he's pitted against someone like Anderson Silva, he might go home with some broken limbs for sure.

that would be very interesting. Although pitting him against Brandon Vera? Mayweather still needs to bulk up.

If Kimbo Slice can compete in the UFC as a brawler, I'm sure a boxer could hold his own.

No he would lose. Boxers get taking down to quick and then get submitted. All the fighters in the UFC would love to face him.

Even Kimbo Slice will find it difficult eventually in the UFC. Unless he improves his grappling and other techniques, I don't see him being a great deal of threat in the UFC. May be the low ranked and the average fighters might find it difficult with Kimbo Slice. But certainly not the top dogs.

    Exactly.

Floyd Mayweather would need to fight at 155. Anderson Silva is 30 pounds heavier normally, and he's going to be at 205 for his next fight so there is zero chance of them fighting.

Put Mayweather in against a decent 155 pounder and he'll get destroyed on the ground. BJ Penn would submit him within a round, gauranteed.

Mayweather is great but why would he want to train for years to learn the skills required to be an MMA fighter. there is no doubt in my mind if he started training MMA at the same time he started boxing he would be a great MMA fighter now.

UFC? pfff, M1 and Fedor Emel'yanenko is the deal (Kevin Randleman knows it and many others too :)) K1 is also somewhat interesting, but not that much and only Tokyo Final are good.

Regarding the question, you cannot just put a plain boxer on them rings, he'll have to train first, well, I would!

Well Emelianenko is the number one for sure but UFC are the "real deal" and are without doubt the top organisation.

Floyd Maywather isn't even going to the UFC as of yet... Maybe in a few years when he gets bored of doing nothing. If he was to enter though at his current weight he could dominate with a bit of Jui Jitsu training from top fighters. His boxing speed could be unmatched by any MMA fighter and the other fighters would be forced to take him down.

No he couldn't. a "bit of jui jitsu training" isn't going to help him when a black belt is folding him up like a pretzel.

Thats perfectly true. Its not going to help him win any fights though. Someone like BJ Penn or Sean Sherk are just going to run straight through him and dump him on his back. He'll be like a fish out of water, eating elbows and getting his arms and legs twisted in directions they just shouldn't be going in :D

I dont think sean sherk is a good example right there... Floyd would rip him to pieces. Fair enough he will need more than a bit. I personally think though that an undefeated boxer with his fitness and lighting fast agility would be able to go far in the sport. He just needs to put some extra hours of training in if he was ever to go into MMA.

I absolutely hate Sean Sherk. I think he's boring, as well as a cheater. I'd love Floyd to break his jaw, but it wouldn't happen. The chance of Floyd "ripping him to pieces" is about 1%. Sherk will just do a wrestling take down, and lie on top of him for 3 rounds. Sherk is way bigger and stronger and Floyd won't be able to get him off. Sherk might finish the fight before 3 rounds are out, he might not. But he will definetely win.

Sean Sherk has fell out of favor thats for sure. If mayweather had a match it would be against a scrub at first.

I think it all depends on how and who he trains with before he fights MMA. I think Kimbo is a perfect example. He was a can... an unskilled street fighter. But Bas turned him into a decent fighter. At least against the opponents he has faced so far.

BTW... all you MMA fans, I need help getting my MMA forums going. Do you guys want to hop on there and help a fellow DPer out? MMAAddictforums

I am also looking for a regular paid writer for the blog. Let me know if you are interested.
