Firstly there are a few things you must understand:

Articles and article sites are useless, they are filled with crap articles so the writer gets to spam their url all over the place. It has a low response rate and ranks along side spam as a major pest - basically it doesn't work.

Press release directories? Can't say I've seen any of those, but there are Press release posting sites, where novices think this is how companies get written about in the National press and magazines. This is another lie and misconception doing the rounds and all these sites do is extract large fees to put you on spam sites until your cash runs out.

No Journalist I know ever visits these sites to pick off stories to print in the next day's edition of the eg: Telegraph, Times etc - it's total BS my friend, so save your money and time.

Blogs...... hmmm another trendy over-used social tool that may get you 0.01% of a hit to your site. It's because so many use them, thus any exposure will be minimal.

Personally, use PPC - the results will be better than some article directory or press site.

    :)

    Pay Per Click

Basically, you use a search engine eg: Google and place a special ad called a Pay per Click text advert. You simply choose a title, 35 characters of text and web address, and Google gives you displaying for free. You don't pay until somebody clicks your advert - that means you pay per click, and once a click is registered by Google for one of your ads - they take a set sum of money from you for each click you get/they send you.

It's called Adwords, there are similar schemes elsewhere, but everyone uses Google as it's very easy to set up and begin advertising. You can set up any number of adverts and you choose how much you want to pay per click.
