Well, given that FF supports valid HTML and CSS then FF kicks arse. IE would be great if it was standards compliant...maybe. FF any day.

That site? FUD. There are lots of arguments that can be made in FF vs. IE, but at the end of the day they're all highly subjective and spun to fit a personal view point.

Use whatever you're happy with. But as a webdesigner you should always be concerned how your site looks in FF because it's standards-compliant. Whatever you think about the browser, this is an undeniable fact.

I am tempted to say, "You are no web designer"... but I hope you take my phrase as a joke. But seriously...

    What you should know

Web browsers and HTML are designed with the soul purpose of interoperability.
Your web design should be able to degrade gracefully so your "information" can be accessable on different OS, Browsers and Systems. My friend who has bad eyesight needs bigger fonts so your design should adjust for width.
Another friend is color blind so select colors that contrast well. I can give you more examples but search engines will teach you more about designing for the masses...

    Solution
If you want your page to look Exactly the same on every web browser please use only Graphics

If you are the main customer of your web design then design it anyway you want.

Many of us have to design for others... so we follow the rules that give maximum appeal to the majority of the people... so design for yourself and use IE ... but realize others are doing web design with a different purpose and this is where the features of FireFox and Opera excel .

I never used firfox (I have it installed though), but this is the first time i've seen somebody say that FF Sucks, normally people are all praise for FF.

IE7 is coming up, maybe it would give some competition to FF.

Putting aside colour-issues and font-sizes, if your site looks good, and is navigable, in lynx (a text-based browser) then you've got it right. A well-designed site that's accessible. Text-based is how a SE is going to see your site.

That would make a site very inaccessible and it won't look like anything to an SE/text-based browser. If the HTML is well-coded, a site can look the same in all browsers, text-based browsers will be an exception but it should still look more or less the same.

If you're expecting standards-compliance in IE7... forget about it, still not there. Apparently, stability has been improved and slightly less bugs but let's face it... 5 years to catch up with Mozilla and its off-shoots, plus other browsers which are older and already have the features it now does. Mozilla-based browsers will always have more features and be at the fore-front of browser-technology because they're in continous development and anyone can contribute.

But, let's face it... so long as the majority of internet users use IE then sites will still be made to look best in IE. I use Firefox only to ensure my pages render properly, but I browse with IE. I also use its built in FTP ability and like that.

I hate building to 529 standards. I've been using IE 7 for about 6 months now and I must say I still like FF better.

EVEN if you validate your site for CSS in W3C validater the diffrence is still there....

dose this mean that Dreamweaver and frontpage are not complinte too..... i said above it should be GWYS ( get what you see ) the site i am seeing in dreamweaver is exactly as IE shows...

if there is a problem with my code why dont Dreamweaver SHOW ME....

fact is Firefox is not as good as IE.... you started using internet with IE.... i think you woould have visited your VERY first site with IE...

Come on... microsoft is FATHER of computing... dose it mean they created IE wrongly ????

i think IE is whats it has to be!

what BIG problems were we getting when FF was'nt really exists???

this Complient and STANDERDs thing......ahhhh leave it...

no one can change my mind that FF is better then IE...

    IE
    is best!

Lynx and then Netscape Navigator were the first browsers I used! There were a lot of other browsers before IE too. The first tabbed browser was released in the 1990s, maybe 10+ years for IE to catch up.

What a load of rubbish. The first computer was before M$ ever existed, probably before Bill Gates was even alive. Computing has been going on since the 1930s in one form or another, hell maybe even longer.

I don't understand a lot of what you right but trying my best to. Can you rephrase this one? If I do understand correctly, netscape came before IE and that was a damn good browser, which is basically FF (have a read of FF/Mozilla history, mate).

It's up to you. If you don't want to make standards compliant site then fine. But if it's really broken you have the potential to turn away a lot of traffic. For one of my sites 70% of visitors use mozilla/ff. For another, it's 50% and growing each week. Accessibility is important, whether you like it or not, otherwise it'll eventually come back to slap you in the face.

You have the right to like what you want, but research some facts first, mate.
