Does Yahoo give better search results than Google?

I've really never used Yahoo because I always believed Google gave better search results. They're also the most popular and my browser already has the Google toolbar installed. For the past few days I've been testing out Yahoo and I'm actually quite pleased with the search results. I'm finding all the websites that are listed on the top in Google as well as some other good ones that are completely buried in the results pages on Google. I don't see why Yahoo doesn't argue the quality of their search results because I think they're pretty darn good. Somebody told me that some of Yahoo's results come from Google but I'm not too sure about that one. Let me know what you think.

As far as websites go yes they some times do. But the thing is yahoo backlinks suck since they hardly ever send quality traffic.

I completely agree with you, Yahoo has more security sites indexed and relevant than what Google has, my personal experiment concludes, so there are more results in Yahoo than Google or Yahoo is more relevant in some areas but it is overall vice versa at some times.

I always use Google to search anything on the Internet. I could always find the whatever I might be looking for by using Google. As being said, Google has more pages indexed than Yahoo.

A "better search results" is something very relative. What's good for me, might be completely useless for someone else.
What we know for sure is that Yahoo give a different results than Google. Live - same story.

People more probably believe google is better than any other like yahoo maybe because google holds more than 50% of search in the internet, they powered the searches of other different big sites.

I agree that Yahoo returns more relevant results to search queries.
I have a ~35% bounce rate for visitors coming from Yahoo and ~70% for those coming from Google.

Dosen't matter what we think abour which gives *us* the best results. Google must be globally giving the best results as their market share is increasing. If they gave bad results, the search public would start searching elsewhere. Given that the market share is increasing at the expense of Yahoo! and MSN, then they must be giving better results.

I mostly use a mixture of Google.com, google.co.uk (when I'm looking for UK specific websites) and Yahoo when I don't find what I'm looking for on G.

Overall I think Google does a great job indexing/listing sites...

Did you know that you can add custom buttons on your google toolbar? You might want to add a Yahoo button that will take you straight there so if you can't find what your looking for on one, simply head over to the other SE :)

Though yahoo search throws up some useful results for a particular keyword, when the overall performance of the two search engines are concerned, google overtakes yahoo, imo :D

I also get more relevant results with Yahoo and Ask than using Google (Google is overhyped and overrated). I think it is because Google sensors too much (blocks too many useful websites)

Google blocks a lot of stuff, so In my opinion Google is very useful for getting answer to questions, information blabla I use Google in this case. But for really specific stuff I use yahoo since in my opinion, tends to perform better for commercial sites and other stuff. This is just the way I see it and not actual facts of course.

I find live.com to be very close to google in the rankings I'm looking at. Google have gone way past reason with the manipulations of their index and are so full of spam I often find myself losing a lot of time just to find something I know is there and I know how I found it before but it fails to appear in the result. Yahoo while highly relevant in some cases really sends too little traffic outside the US.

Google rules with data search queries. They are the fastest and most relevant. Yahoo is more on the social side.

Take a look at the dog fight

Yahoo is also more truthful with site query operators that webmasters use.
