Google penalizes for too many backlinks

So I read that if you get many backlings fast you can be penalized by google.
How much is that many? If I get like 20 backlinks a day will that be a problem?

Another question. I also read that PR0 or unrelated site links are rather bad. Is it true?
ex. I advertise my site on many forums that are PR0

Well some times this can be a possibility. You are safe if you do around 200 links per day, but realize that google will not find them all in one day just keep speading it out. If you get 200 links, then no links the rest of the week, they will know your a spammer.

Bad for what? Are they going to penalize your site? I don't think so.
Is there a chance those pages will gain PR on the next PR update? I think so.
SEO is common sense sometimes :)

If you get all links in same day it could be doubtful, try out 2-3 links per day instead.

It won't be doubtful if they come from different sites with different anchor text, etc.
Think about article getting to the homepage of Digg. It receives tons of backlinks and nobody is being penalized :)

Are we sure about that? If it was true, most of the sites featured on Digg would have been banned by now.

Why don't you build even few but strong backlinks? Feel it like getting links naturally and of course avoid buying them.

Google will surely penalizes your sites if he finds too many backlinks within short period of time and from same server IP, also if you are giving backlinks to your site, then you have to keep them giving

    I don't think 20 links a day is a problem.

If you get a couple of 100 links then it will be a big problem

2-3 links per day wouldn't hurt your site position.
10+ links per day will definitely have negative effect

Then you mean that those offers in the services section of the type "we submit your website up to 2000 directories" is not beneficial?
Or for example if I buy 200 stumbles

So if Google penalize (as apposed to just not counting) too many backlinks what is to stop me creating 5000 crap links to all my competitors tomorrow and having them penalized? Nothing.

Surely any penalty can only be applied to websites that link from (i.e. where you are in control) and not the receiving site. At worst they are just going to be ignored which is the case for most of these junk directories?

This is ridiculous and its been talked about multiple times- Google will not punish you for alot of links at a time- if that were true then everyone would just target their competition and kill them with links and google would punish them so no google doesnt punish you for links only for selling them

Google do not penalize for getting too many backlinks in quick time, if google used to penalize for such thing, then people will start to build thousands of backlinks for their competitors in order to get them penalized.

Too much! is really bad. There must be a limitation of all things. I prefer quality links rather than quantity. I would suggest that you also follow that rule of thumb. One more thing, always get links to related sites.
