I think this is an underdeveloped story, and one that certainly needs more attention as the world regains it's sanity and acknowledges what the greatest Marine ever, General Smedley Butler once proclaimed.

    "War is a Racket"

Apparently, it is also a prostitution ring, and has been throughout history. Whether it's private contractors or active duty military, prostitutes, sometimes underage prostitutes or sex slaves have been a support mechanism for the military, one rarely discussed, but always prevalent.

Military Prostitution and the Iraq Occupation:: Privatizing Women

    Excerpt
Maybe the insurgents don't like the idea of their daughters and sisters ending up as slave whores for the occupation army. I know I would fight to the death for my loved ones.

Not just prostitution you are talking about here. Many parts of the Middle East are known for human trafficking and that is really the worst part of it. The slavery you mention. I personally don't have a problem with a person, male or female working on their back, I do have a problem with the slavery aspect of it.

Not just the ME has this problem either, it happens all over the world, I wonder how many women where kidnapped in Mexico today.

Indeed, wasn't trying to say otherwise. I think it would be interesting to see if places that have legalized prostitution have more or less cases of human trafficking and "white" slavery. I kind of doubt it, I think abuse and ownership fall somewhere outside of sexual gratification but maybe the stats would disagree with me.

Prostitution is a fact of life. It happens everywhere, no surprise it happens during the war. In fact, some active duty female soldiers offer their services for a price.

Interesting thread title got my attention: Military Prostitution and the Iraq Occupation:: Privatizing Women

Privatization in this context usually means a government service or roll being taken up by a company in the private sector. Sooo, does that mean the government used to supply prostitutes to our armed forces?

Chinese massage parlors and some Chinese health centers in Kabul are quite famous among foreigners.

the US gov. likes to impoverish an entire region with decades of economic sanctions because this depletes the cuban cigar stash of the local dictator :D ...

in reality US sanctions are a tool used to destabilize a region and give power to crazy dictators and then they can "bomb away" because they are trying to save the population from the crazy dictator

prostitution came to my country in a big way just after the sanctions started...it was bad enough before but try making ends meet in a 3rd world country whilst under war and sanctions...

US mercenaries like to get cheap sucky sucky with their blood money so it works fine as far as the US army is concerned...
