Here is a different spin presented to me today and I want to run this by anyone out there with knowledge (in case the tactic violates TOS). My web site is an image licensing database of sorts. A particular web designer asked if he could acquire some of my specific images for free . . . he did counter with a proposal: of using my specific AdSense code on the same page(s) where these images will be posted in his site, saying his site gets mucho traffic. In a way, a sort of compensation for using my specific images. Make sense? If so, what would this "tactic" be called?
Yea, make sure their site is on the up and up and they don't break the tos - because then your account will get banned.
Thanks for the insights. This is something I was totally unaware of....now I see some potential in that people wanting to use my stuff for free I could then agree to it, providing they run my AdSense ads. Of course within TOS on THEIR site. Btw, this is a fishing organization and my images are humor related to fishing. I assume I could let him use my code for a banner ad and a large rectangle and maybe a smaller banner plus link unit? What is this tactic referre to? Just curious.....
Well it does not have a real name. The closest it can be called is advertisement, but in reality you is not actually the one advertising anything, but instead the Adwords advertisers that happen to advertise on your banner being placed on the site.
Thanks alot windtalker...muchas gracias. Well, the guy who owns that website just emailed me indicating he is displaying my exact web page on HIS site using what's called an "I Frame", if you're familiar with that? In essence, I checked the link he told me to go to, and that exact page with all of the ads appears on that sub page...I put my cursor over all the AdSense and they were active (didn't click any though) and this looks like yet another promotional ploy....basically an alternative to paying me to license my images by running my ads or actually displaying my page(s) on their site. Cool.... never knew this was doable - something new I learned.
The first thing here is that you are NOT supposed to put Adsense inside an iFrame. The second thing that comes to mind is, does he run Adsense himself? If he does then (1) there could be two pub-id's on a single page (against ToS) and (2) it could end up with more than the allowed number of ads per page. Personally, I would not agree to letting anybody else use my code on their site. You have no control over what he does with the site and it sounds very risky.
Maybe it's sort of a way to pay you for the images. It's allowed. DP has a revenue sharing program where the same principle applies
Thanks Pendrago - I'm concerned then....can you elaborate NOT using AdSense in an Iframe then? Is this in adsense TOS? Please let me know.
I 'don't think' it's actually against ToS to put the ads in an iFrame (someone correct me if I'm wrong there), but it's certainly and strongly advised by Google that you don't. An iFrame is a window in the website that displays another page, or another website, inside the page. As well as the two risks I mentioned above, Google also advise that the ads may not respond as expected when in an iFrame. If you log onto the Adsense help and do a search for 'iframe', you'll find quite a bit from Google about the subject. I may well be being over cautious, but with Adsense it's always better to be on the safe side.
