Other than disk cleanup, disk defragmenter, scanning for viruses, using a registry cleaner, and changing the paging file size, what can I do to speed up a computer? (Not adding RAM or replacing the processor)
I can do log me in pro with you. I can show you many ways and you could possibly learn from watching me work. Let me know and we can set up a time. Also, I'm a PC tech. Information Systems Manager
Press Start>Run, type "msconfig", and click the services tab. Uncheck the ones you don't need. Explanations of a lot of these are on my friend's guide at http://internetdatabasewebsite.110mb.com/xps.php. Do the same for startups, except they are pretty much self explanatory.
You can also speed up your internet. Every computer has a limit on how much internet there computer will take in. You can also adjust these limits. But you would have to do it manually. I can't really explain how its different for some computers. But if anyone needs help with this they could PM me.
Uninstall all unnecessary software and startup programs. You can also stop some services to speed up the performance.
I run Cleanup! around once a week. It removes temorary Internet files and more. It's a free download from here: http://www.stevengould.org/index.php?Itemid=69&id=15&option=com_content&task=view Brewstered
Make sure you have a good one Don't use vista. Don't install stuff you don't need. Don't run too many programs at once. Clear the RAM regularly.
