For a specific keyword website number 1 has 500 backlinks according to backlingwatch each with no PR and site ranked number 2 has 5029 backlinks r 2each with no PR. So according to many here backlinks are what gets you higher in the SERPS but as you can see guy number 2 although having done all that work (this could be me or you) has not been able to beat guy number 1 even with all that backlink equity. So what is missing in the puzzle to make guy number 2 beat guy ranked number 1? TY BAD
And perhaps is onpage optimization is better than the other one? Lets not forget that ranking on Google is not all about backlinks. People forget that quite often
see if the 5000 backlinks are coming from a forum signature or some blogs comments becz in that case that 5000 link will be equivalent to 1 good link that the guy at number one possess.
Hello I just checked and I found that for both about 70% are unique backlinks on pages without any PR. Guy number 2 still having more backlinks than guy number 1 yet not ranking better than him, i.e. knocking him of the number 1 spot in Goog1e. So????
What is the text used in the links? Also the relevancy of the sites pointing to them? Both make a big difference.
it all depends for what keyword the pages are optimized. Maybe guy at #2 has backlings with another keyword as the anchor text.
Not only does it depend of quality of backlinks, but also backlinks are just one of the factors used by search engines to rank sites. Others include onsite optimization factors, domain age etc.
SEO is not only about backlinks, you need to learn more. Domain name, domain age, keyword density are very important as well as quantity and quality back links. Remember that anchor text plays its part as well.
There are several things to think about here, even beyond anchor text and pagerank... Are the pages giving the links related to the keywords? How do they rank on the search engines? How many outbound links are on each page? If you look up term "xyz" and see the top five results, what do you suppose would happen if you got each of those pages to link to your page about "xyz" with that anchor text? Sure its only five backlinks, but its the five best pages for "xyz." Maybe they are PR0 pages about "xyz" but it still might be better for SERPs than getting a PR3 link from a page that isn't about "xyz" at all.
