It could work considering that there is a strong dominance by those who are not even willing to spend $8 a year on a domain name (the blogspot crowd), so having an access fee of as little as $2 would probably already eliminate most of the garbage. Question is whether or not the good members will stay interested enough to pay. I personally probably would, but quite a few of the good posters would probably use this as a sign that it's time for them to focus on other things than posting on forums.
Yeah, that doesn't sound a bad idea. I think it would 'cut out' a lot of the 'cheap' stuff... problem is, I think it could put off genuine, good posters also. We all know that there are loads of places where we could post where we don't have to pay... That said, I think it would certainly help cut down the cr*p.
yeh i agree the problem is its so hard to find top quality content im sorry to have a go at the writers but they just see money signs you see some advertising and 1c per word and them go to a thread where the poster has said hed pay $20 for a top notch 500 word article If i put out a request for a writer i get nearly 20pm's theres to much of the same thing which is driving the price down someone needs to come up with something new adsense, ebay, social networking, pixel/tag sites, proxy something like these things that changed the webmaster world for a short time
Maybe you should make a new thread asking people about this access fee. I personally agree. I can pay per month or year. I'm willing to pay the price of comfortability. Or maybe the idea to make a thread about it is already done before?
Mr. Roman did it, but that was an April fool's joke. Go ahead and start a thread if you like, I have spoken my mind back then already.
...and virtually always none of them are any good, eh? I hear you. What really bugs me is if I put out a request for something - eg. links on PR5+ travel sites - I get people with gambling sites contact me, or people with PR2 travel sites... I mean...
For those people who think that they have option to buy cheap services on DP.... Problem it is not even worth that money, most of the time effect is zero, so price should be $0. It's not that hard to spam dirs with autosubmitting, autogenerate content and so on. And charge for that very low, but in overall earn way more than decent service provider cause of fast time of it and etc. Actually you just supporting scummers, probably without even thinking of it (you have an option, mind you, lol) Banning some services is a VERY good practice and should continue. I joined almost 2 years ago, but browse DP for almost 4 years since it's start like a lot of people there. And in past 2 years it's not even worth to devote time to earn much from it. Scummers virtually doubled.
I agree members made it a flea market - you can't sell quality here.... unless you giving it away for cheap prices
It all depends what you are looking for. I haven't found a better place on the Internet to buy web sites. The inventory over at SitePoint isn't any better than the inventory here. For serious discussion, I've been hanging out over on the SEOBook Forums. To just blow off steam, I come to DP. My thoughts: 1. Posts in the General Chat, Entertainment, and P&R forums should not count towards post count. 2. No posting in the GC, E, and P&R forums until you have at least 50 posts elsewhere on the forums.
very true and excellent point Btw, you are the 211th member of DP congrats for one of the oldest members
Exactly! People seem to forget that 'cheap' doesn't necessarily mean 'good value'. Just because something is only $6, it doesn't mean to say it's a bargain, and the stuff I've seen around here at that kind of price... well, quite frankly, I don't want it even if I was to be paid $6 rather than vice versa.
IMO DP should ban such threads "Earn $5000 per month" and then ask for a pm sent before they reveal the answer which is an affiliate link.
I think more heavy-handed banning generally is in order. People that do that, people that are only posting 'lol', people that are generally not really contributing... they should all go. We need to get to a situation whereby the predominance of the members here are running at least semi-serious online businesses.
You really have to be careful with that. Bans are a pretty serious punishment for many contractors here who depend on DP for a significant portion of their income. I know one fellow in India who was forced to lay off some of his staff members because of a DP ban. I know another fellow in the UAE was was mysteriously permabanned and had to find other ways to pay the bills. Don't be too quick to ban people; it's a serious thing.
It is a great place for webmasters, have been learning and enjoying myself in this forum. I cant say it is full of rubbish just that the amount of spam posts is a lot especially from newbies who can say "Thank you" for any and every thread even if there is zero involvement or those PM me, even when all the info are available from the OPs. This is not a WOW forum, so I really do not get you when you say "brave people", I don't think webmasters are in any sense brave or need to exhibit braveness in a forum of this nature.
I think likeaphoenix prooved us what altyfc trying to say.. He just posted some post which has no value, I think.. Watching altyfc post count and year of joining shows that too, atleast personally I think I'm far away from his posts quality Also Will.Spencer is correct about to be carefull with banning. I know some people who got banned, and not honestly, so it was unfair to them, as they were little fish, nobody cared..
Check his previous 13 posts basically confirmed what you are saying. Thats why I am replying to him with a question as his post really does not seem to fit in the thread. There are tons of such posts out there but I think the mods are going their best to clear them.
Point taken, Will. But presumably the first example was banned for a reason? And I'd be surprised if a DP ban alone would cause staff to be laid off. There are other forums, ways of getting around bans, etc.
