For those of you that haven't heard of it, Byethost is a hosting company offering both free and paid hosting packages and is located at http://www.byethost.com/. So far I've only had experience with their free hosting package, which I have to say is probably the most generous package you'll find as far as free hosting goes the main features being 250mb disk space, 6Gb monthly transfer, 5 addon domains (ie yoursite.com), 5 parked domains, 5 sub domains (yoursite.byethost.com), an FTP account, 5 MySQL databases, PhpMyAdmin, and a fantastico-like script installer. Wow. However, I find that once you upload a file to their servers it can sometimes take several minutes to become available (maybe that's normal ), but also sometimes you can access the files instantly. When you try to access a file that isn't accessible or a file that doesn't exist, or even sometimes when you type in the site URL instead of following a link to your destination , it randomly redirects to a web hosting blog http://kwikphp.com/blog3/, which I think is a highly unprofessional thing for them to be doing. Anyway, the paid hosting seems extremely good value IMO, check it out here http://byethost.com/index.php/paid-hosting to see the amazing value you get for just $2.99 per month! Nevertheless, good value hosting is worthless if it performs as bad as their free hosting, so I'd like to hear from you guys and gals if you've had experience with this company before, and what you think of them. I hope this post can be of use to some of you looking for a hosting solution, and when I sign up with them I'll be sure to post my experience. Thank you.
if you want to know NEVER buy hosting with byethost. if you use more than 50go monthly he cut you off overselling is byethost.
in error pages 404 , 401, in that it redirects to there blog and even sometimes if there server is down so rather showing server not found it is redirected to a blog 50gb is even too much at the price of 2.99$
It is extremely umprofessional to redirect your valuable traffic to somewhere else. I cant even think about loosing my visitors Good Luck
Thanks for yor responses guys, so it looks like byethost is a big no no then. What a shame. It looks like you get what you pay for, so something like hostgator will still be the better option.
definitely if you are professional than you should go for paid hosting however free hosts are very good if you are starting new blog or you are a newbie
Free hosts have their limits, and their countless problems, most of the time which just piss me off. That's why I was looking for some cheap paid hosting, but it looks like you won't get cheaper than Hostgator and still get the quality service they provide.
I have many packages to offer on different servers as per requirements but if you can tell me your requirements than I will be able to assist you better If I won't be able to than I will suggest you even better hosts than hostgator and cheaper I had wasted over 7 days in researching for web hosting companies and how to make most out of it
I'm just looking for reliable hosting for around $5/month or less. Can you post links to the best ones you think would be good? That looks pretty good. How many customers do you have?

Looking forward to host you. Regards Vijay
hostedfx.com has some good cheap hosting, they gave a coupon for the first month free, and I was very happy with them, might want to check them out. I think their cheapest plan was $5 a month.
hostedfx.com looks good. Now I've seen plently of new hosting companies though, and how crap they can be, I think I'll go for hostgator.
I have used byet for quite a while and they seem reliable and the customer support friendly even though the redirection thing annoyed me.. till I realised a very quick .htaccess file can allow me to stop the redirection and have my own error page, and yes I do use free hosting.
Some time is passed already... Any improvements guys with this host? Any good feedback? Or it is still 'get whatyou pay for'??
