ipb or phpbb3

hey all
i already bought host and domain
and i going open Forum about stuies in the school and more.

so what i need ?
Download mode (IPB GOT )
SECURITY (phpbb better but i can get good one for IPB)
and more mods


i have doubts about Phpbb or IPB 2.0.0 like here (http://2study.x10hosting.com/forum/index.php)
both of them free and 2.0.0 was free in 2001 so no hard to get it.

i prefer ipb
what do u recommend ?

 

I recommend phpbb2. Easy to use, lots of mods/themes. Better layout than ipb.

 

I have to recommend IPB. It's a lot more professional. Skinning IPB is also easier, because the last time I used phpbb I believe they used complicated template files. IPB also gives you a lot more control and is more secure.

 

I would personally recommend phpBB if you want to save money. But if you have money, I'll suggest you to go with vbulletin instead of IPB.

yes phpbb3 for the win. Easy to use and some of the mods for 3.0 are great!

phpBB3 is the way to go, admin panel is very easy to use, very straight forward layout, managing is a breeze! I myself use phpbb3 for my board. =]

 

Are you asking about the free version of IPB? If so, I have seen sites running the free version that get hacked every 2 months. One forum hosting site that hosted other "free" forums, and they used the free version of IPB was finally shut down by hackers. When the site would go back up, it was hacked again within a days, hours or weeks. IPB ended support for its free version a long time ago.

Or, are you considering the paid for version of IPB? If you are looking at spending money why not consider Vbulletin? And yes, VB has a download module that can be installed. If you want to see the downloads module for VB, its called Downloads II and it can be found on Vbulletin.org. I have it up and running on my site. I have served over 11,000 downloads using this module. http://www.survivalistboards.com/downloads.php And if you want mods, its going to be really hard to beat the quality of Vbulletin mods.

My opinion - either go with the paid version of IPB, or consider VB.

 

IPB is the WORSE script out there,don't use it.If you were to spend a few bucks then go for vBulletin.If no,then phpBB all the way.

 

I totally Agree with Bang, I have used all popular forums for long time, I will not recommend to purchase IPB, I strongly recommend vbulletin over IPB

 

I would choose phpBB over IPB anyday. Even if someone was going to pay for the licence fee for me.

 

But why would you recommend obsolete software? (unless you meant phpBB3)

phpBB3 may have less mods at the moment but the community is there and it is a good piece of software.
