Hey all, just wondering do people actually do spot checks on .us domain names?
because i really want one but don't live in the USA and have no ties with the USA.....

    any ideas?

This has been already discussed. You can register a US domain regarless the place you live.

Basically you willl be asked if, as foreigner you have ties with USA entities or your work involves US services/servers, as well as the nature of your request, meaning by this if your new US domain will be intended for personal or commercial purposes.

I wouldnt chance it. Registrars like Godaddy sometimes find excuses to spank domain names, this is one of them.

I wouldn't do it either, if I really was investing money in a .us name and did not live in the US. It just opens up the possibilities of having it taken away if there were ever a dispute. Maybe find someone in the US you can trust to reg it for you and hold it until it sells or try to work somthing else out?

Bad advice. You can lose a .us domain if your not from the USA.

You are wrong. .us does not have any geo restrictions. Anybody can buy it. I am from India. and I own 3 .us domains since last 2 years.

    Really?

    https://www.godaddy.com/gdshop/tlds/us.asp

"To register a .US name you must have a presence in the United States"

I think you might be wrong

I wouldn't stick to GoDaddy when there are other registrars with cheaper prices and allowing foreigners register US domains such as Name.com, 1&1, Domainsite, and Dynadot just to name a few ;)
