We have two sites that are doing quite well now. One is a guide to tourist attractions in the UK ( www.ukattraction.com ). This had been getting around 90,000 uniques a month, but this month it's flying and has already passed that total and looks set to get around 200,000 uniques. I believe this one has done well because of its huge amount of content, and because it ranks well (search Google for any town followed by the word 'attractions' or 'tourist attractions' and we're invariably in the top 5). Our other site that's doing quite nicely is a site that webmasters put custom maps on their sites, using Google Maps ( www.aardvarkmap.net ). This is getting around 140,000 uniques a month. This has gradually grown virally as more and more people use it. What I'd really like to do now is move these sites up to "the next level". They're doing well, but they're not in the big time league of 500,000 - 1,000,000 million visitors a month. I would like to push them up to that kind of level, without spending a fortune. Any suggestions? Also, what's YOUR most popular site? What's the URL and how many UVs a month is it getting?
http://www.campusbreak.com My highest month was 234,120 uniques and highest day was 17,005 uniques I've owned larger sites in the past but right now it does the most for me.
I can only dream of reaching those numbers unfortunately. This one http://projectwm.com is only a few hundred. I had one that got 1000, but it is sold.
Well it's not adult based I don't target porn keywords. Most of my keywords are college based keywords. I rank first in google for terms like "college girls" etc. I know quite a few people on another forum who own adult sites and I could only dream of their numbers. A lot of them are doing well over 500k uniques a day.
Oh I am not complaining or anything. I agree with you it's just a different ball game when you have the freedom to post adult material. On my websites I have to have a stiff upper lip or else I would lose rep very quickly. The same goes for the UK poster who started the thread, I guess. I like the concept of your site though, seems pretty cool and it's not vulgar or anything.
So... any suggestions about turning "good" traffic (eg. 100K a month) into "great" traffic (eg. 1000K a month)...? (without using crappy traffic exchanges and the like)
nitrostics.com gets the most trsffic for me and thats not even very much, about on average 400 unique ips a month lately more
Surely some of you here are heavier hitters... ? I can't believe there isn't someone on DP (other than Shawn, of course!) who's getting more than half a million uniques a month to one site...
There are lots of us here that get that kind of traffic, but we don't tell because there are desperite people here who will reverse-engineer our sites, or click-bomb our adsense accounts out of pure jealousy..

Ditto. Still I do not see the point of a lot of traffic. My focus is always on the bottom line. If you look at the advertisers' companies on my site (goodinvestment.info), they are all very heavy hitters in their niche. In fact I get the same advertisers as invest.com, and that is a 1,000,000$+ domain. Still here is a freebie for you: howstuffworks.com, It's not mine but I know them. They get over 1,000,000 uniques a month.
Not much traffic...yet, but does well in it's niche http://glutenfreedietweb.info/ I know a guy getting a 400,000 hits a month but doesn't make much.
