It really is not the amount of accounts that are put on a server that matters it is the type of accounts and what they use resource wise. You can have 100 accounts doing absolutely nothing while 1 account uses all the resources so the number of accounts should not play a role here.

And stuff happens hardware fails, and MH is doing what they can to get it resolved.. Everyone should have local back ups of their accounts at all times.

This could be fault of theirs or hard ware I do not know. but Inflow has a good point

Load balancer is working for http port only, its using the Softlayer's private IP for mysql from the first node. You are getting a bit confused looks like. Mysql space are being taken from the first node which is located under /var, i have said this several times now, home directory data are available and being given to clients from backup garage, what is lost is the cpanel configuration and mysql databases where both of them are hosted on the first node. Hope this should clear your confusion.

    See to make that remotely make sense the following would be happening in this sort of setup;

    - Clustered file system of some kind. /home being shared among servers means write locking on non clustered file system. So either one system is actually storing the home directory or iSCSI is being used.

MySQL across the private network is obvious. Now the question becomes is anyone on that server using localhost as the host for their databases? Or are they using an IP address?

You know I find this all highly unlikely there are very few if anyone load balancing cPanel servers for shared or reseller customers. The most I've read is people rsyncing entire servers for a hot swap backup.

Mazza - they lost all the mysql databases. You won't get them back if you were affected in this incidence. I was pretty shocked.

I am writing to say that Mellowhost did restore my public_html in the last hour. So thank you. Unfortunately that's essentially that's like 2 index.html pages amongst a block of around 25 domains- 10 blogs, 5 forums with an average of over 1000 posts and over 100 members on each which are still all gone. Also 2 high PR5 sites with over 3500+ links we were just about to sell off, mysql databases for sites I've paid $100s for on DP to build, etc ALL GONE...

So yes, I'm angry, partly at Mellow, partly at myself. As much as I understand Mellow's need to defend themselves, I am not getting compensated whatsoever for this. And yes I'm angry that I am now having to do everything from scratch.

But certainly we've all learnt a lesson today. Mellow learnt their lesson, I learnt mine. I guess you can always forgive, but it doesn't mean I'll continue to trust doing business with them.

It's been a long tough day for everyone involved and that shit happens but this could have easily been preventable if only backups were done properly. I would have thought that databases were at least backed up daily if not weekly, so to say that the hdd corrupted, and teh databases too because it was all onsite was pretty shocking.

The problem is this still doesn't fix the fact that it's wasted $500 worth of venture launches, and having to redo it all... I won't go into the total expenses. Now I've spent all day since 7 am this morning having had no breakfast no lunch working to rebuild everything entirely from scratch. And it's been a pain in the ass, esp since most of my sites have had heavy mods costing me hundreds of dollars. I don't even want to start thinking about the financial loss I wold suffer over this.

All I know, is that if I ever build up a large business, whether I have backups or not, I would not feel too confident to leave my domains with Mellow, but that's a personal opinion. The only good point I can say is that support does respond quick, but I get a host to make sure that my sites are up and running smoothly without having me worrying about them.

    Choosing a Host - $5-10.00
Choosing a Host with full back ups -$5-15.00

Backing up your sweat, blood, info, databases,no sleep nights, 2 years progress, $1,000 Investment - priceless

Time taken out of a day to do back ups - 5 Minutes

    Been there , Done that!

Excuses for not having a local back up - NONE!

    That sucks!
2 reasons this happened ( from my experience )
Server load was to high and stop the process
Server admin monitoring the server killed your process!

Other then that I have not seen a corrupted back up!

    I have tested this theory
And 90% chance says that the server load was high and other processes were killed automatically!

Well, It can happen to any host, whether it is mellow or hostgator.
This reminds me my starting days at DP. When I joined, IwhiC
was having almost same problem with a server at caro, I guess.
Then also I posted for people to keep faith in their host, today
also I request them to keep faith in Mellow.

I can understand that, your site is priceless, and you failed to
have a local backup recently. Think the same situation can happen
with your own system too. What if you loose your HDD at your home
computer. Whom will you complain? What if your friend asks for his
GF's photos only stored in your system, and he is not too techy?

Either you will make excuses or you will keep silence, right?
Think putting yourseft in the situation once.

I think MellowHost staffs must have tried hard, they are good at
tech and are responsible. The situation might be out of control.

I'm no way defending him, but it's my very personal opinion
    about what is happening.

    Regards

Yes you are correct. We had a very close instance with our HD! Worst WEEK of my life. We were able to recover 95% of all accounts / files /MySQL and Move on!

Just have faith and I am sure that they will put measures in place to prevent it again. They are good honest hosts, and are working hard to restore what they can..

But I still stress that local back ups are important, especially if you have a lot of time and money put into your sites.
