Anti-Americanism is at record levels thanks to US policies such as the war in Iraq, and Washington's perceived hypocrisy in abiding by its own democratic values, US lawmakers said Wednesday...................

It says the problem arises not from a rejection of US culture, values and power but primarily from its policies, such as backing authoritarian regimes while promoting democracy, human rights and the rule of law.

"Our physical strength has come to be seen not as a solace but as a threat, not as a guarantee of stability and order but as a source of intimidation, violence and torture," said Bill Delahunt, chairman of the subcommittee on international organizations, human rights and oversight...............

How do the top cons live with themselves? They claim they want one thing, but the results of what they do are totally opposite of what what they should be.

If you don't know it America under this admin is not a democratic country. Don't fool yourselves.
A country that is ruled by somebody with less then 30% approval rating for awhile is not a democratic one anymore.

    The Illuminati all seeing eye.

I can see things going down hill real quick. I'm scared for my children and their children and so fourth.

'The Memory of Bush Will Darken America's Image for Years to Come'
German newspaper commentators have launched a scathing attack on US President George W. Bush's record, saying he embodies "the arrogance of power" and has shattered the world's faith in America.
    ...
The Iraq war, Guantanamo Bay, Abu Ghraib, CIA renditions and Bush's record on climate change have tainted not only Bush's image but also that of America for years to come, write Germany's leading newspapers.

I think most of the anti-americanism was already there before Iraq just bubbling below the surface, for which much of the catalyst was envy. It really bothers Europeans to not be the dominant force.

IMHO Dislike of American foreign policies especially Iraq? Definitely, I don't think many countries in the world including Americans support the Iraq war. But Anti Americans, I do not think so, the dislike or even hatred of US policies does not extend to Americans citizens.

At least I do not see such incidents as those mentioned, backpackers identifying themselves as Canadians instead. I guess most of us do know the differences between the US Govt and its citizens. American tourists may not be that much welcome as in the past maybe because of the declining dollar which weakens their spending power rather than due to US policies.

Obviously they hate you more.. Bye, bye!

    It's called sarcasm.

Ah, thats the same thing. The US is the American people mate!

Anyway, the anti-American sentiment and Muslim propaganda machine as of late has been pretty consistent over the years. The only difference now is that more and more of those that already hated our freedom and independence now use our own liberally generated political correctness hogwash against us.

Frankly, I get tired of hearing it. This too shall pass. There will always be people who ate America, and there will always be presidents that people in and out of America hate.

    Again, this too shall pass.

This is such stupid excuse. Have you ever heard about countries like Holland, Switzerland, Sweden,...? Doesn't make you wonder why they are not hated?

I really don't buy this. It sounds a lot like "They hate us for our freedom" type nonsense. I think this is exactly the sort of attitude that makes people dislike Americans (in general.)

People don't dislike America because of America's "freedom," or because of America's wealth or any other such nonsense. People dislike America because of our (and by our I mean our Government's) pompous & arrogant foreign policy.

No. The US Government is not the American people. We cannot all be blamed for the disaster that is the George W. Bush admin. Some of us were never fooled.

Yes, it is. If you lived here, or actually took a US history course you'd know that already.

Do you think we are the only ones capable of pomposity? The Europeans have had arrogant and pompous foreign policies for centuries and have traded turns among themselves either ruling or trying to rule much of the world and often in an oppressive manner.
I believe it is in their DNA to want to dominate and they envy those who have more influence/power than they do.
Reasonable criticisms of our foreign policy are fine but they often take it way beyond the scope of real issues and reduce it to americans being fat, stupid and arrogant. I have to endure these low brow shots at us every time I watch my favorite car show, Top Gear, which is a product of the BBC.
There are a slew of anecdotal examples I can think of, of Brits in particular, exhibiting pompous, vitriolic opinions of us as a whole.

i think it has more to do with the 10.000-s of bombs your army unloads on defenseless civilians than it does with "envy"...on the other hand americans like to think others "envy" them i can understand why its so flattering to them and builds their ego ect ect...

like cluster bombing civilians in my country? delayed charges so fireman cant rescue the wounded? thermobaric or hyperbaric bombs (what ever you call them) against kids who were force drafted? you think the ciriticisms are a BIT harsh?

its british humor...when i lived there i got the same pompous treatment but this is just the way the brits are they dont really mean any harm by it its just their way of being funny...

You make it sound as though you guys were over there tip-toeing through fields of daisies and giving each other back rubs when suddenly the US, all by itself, decided to start bombing innocent civilians.

The fact is it was a NATO operation. And you conveniently forget the fact that before NATO military intervention both sides were murdering innocent civilians. The bombing campaign was introduced on the premise that that is the only language that thugs like Milosevic understands.

I know a lot of people think the US should of stood by while Europeans threw us into another world war and that instead we should have closed our eyes, tapped our toes together and wished it all away in the hopes that it would start raining cinnamon and chocolate drops but the US tends to take a more realistic view of things even if reality is not that pretty.

What a brilliant euphemism for murdering civilians.

"We have to do it, because some has to be realistic, and realism is when we kill civilians, to stop other people from killing civilians"

If you can't see how morally bankrupt positions and statements like that are, then you'll never understand anti-Americanism, because you are part of the problem. The ruthlessness, arrogance and ignorance is astounding.
