Do No Follow Links have any SEO importance?

I notice on the linkdomain: function on Yahoo they count no-follow links

Do No Follow links give weight on any search engines?

Also, do you think search engines have algorithms --- that take No Follow links into consideration...... because someone having 10,000 DO-FOLLOW links, and 0 NO-FOLLOW links might raise suspicion??? For this reason I have thought about building No Follow links as well

    What do you guys think???

Funny I was just looking for the same thing, I cut this from the wiki page on Page Rank..

    Google's "rel='nofollow'" proposal

In early 2005, Google implemented a new value, "nofollow"[14], for the rel attribute of HTML link and anchor elements, so that website developers and bloggers can make links that Google will not consider for the purposes of PageRank — they are links that no longer constitute a "vote" in the PageRank system. The nofollow relationship was added in an attempt to help combat spamdexing.

As an example, people could create many message-board posts with links to their website to artificially inflate their PageRank. With the nofollow value message-board administrator can modify their code to automatically insert "rel='nofollow'" to all hyperlinks in posts, thus preventing PageRank from being affected by those particular posts.

This method of avoidance, however, also has various drawbacks, such as reducing the link value of actual comments. (See: Spam in blogs#nofollow)

    [edit]

Now my question is do the sig tags on this forum count as actual link that go toward page rank, now this page as well as this forum in general has a typical PR of 7 but the number of outgoing links is also very high.

I do not see "nofollow" tags around my sigs in the code of this actual page, but there are a lot of people on this forum that are alot smarter and experience then me and would love their input, if would be awesome if someone could email me or post a list of forums that do not use the "nofollow" tags as it is always nice to have some SEO value from being a part of a community.

    Thanks

The answer is in the wiki statement:

" link and anchor elements, so that website developers and bloggers can make links that Google will not consider for the purposes of PageRank"

no follow links don't count for passing PR, but can count for raising your search engine position.

Don't build them on purpose because google doesn't look at that. You will probably get some naturally anyway.

That's really interesting. I always thought that if a link has a nofollow attribute included then there would be no effect on the pr or the rankings. It still doesn't say that it counts as a search engine ranking booster though ;)

    So No-Follow DOES help rankings?

Also.... does PageRank help rankings? I keep hearing your own pagerank doesnt matter, its the PageRank of other sites that link to you that does matter

First, from a SEO standpoint, only Google has Page Rank (PR). We all try and get links with Page Rank applied to them by Google.

The noFollow attribute stops this transfer of Page Rank. If there is a nofollow attribute added to you link, then this is bad or doesn't help.

You add the nofollow attribute to all outbound links on you site to the save PR Blead.

As for Yahoo, MSN or the other SE, this is a non-issue.

    Example:

<a href="http://www.catanich.com/" rel="nofollow">Internet Marketing</a> will block the transfer of this page's PR to my site.

Exactly we need to balance the ratio of no-follow and do-follow links. Valuable “no-follow” links do better than less valuable do-follow links.

People get turned off with a site when they find out it's a No Follow site. I don't. Most blogs and forums these days are no follow anyway but participating in them can still help raise your website's ranking. Not to mention your and your website's reputation as well if you are providing the community with helpful comments/suggestions.
