Beware Of Pterodactil- A Scammer In The House

Discussion in 'Domains' started by premiumdomainer, Jun 9, 2008.

    Watch out for this guy
    Pterodactil

He calls himself Hans Aabenhus, from Denmark, he goes around forums, especially here, looking for people with domain names and steals their names.

Here is how he operates, he contacts the domain owner, indicates interest and then makes payment for the names, later he requests chargeback from Paypal and keeps both the domains and the money. I know this because I have experienced it first hand, he used the same method with me.

He has already done this with 2 other people,
    http://forums.digitalpoint.com/itrader.php?u=167497

    SO guys beware.

he was bidding on one of my domains - as soon as I told him that he will need to wait for the push for 48-72 hours (my rule after lost a domain) since he wants to pay with paypal.

Guys theres a great sticky about selling domains reg' with godaddy and using PP right on the top of the domains for sale forum.

If you are selling do not push the domain for at least 48 hours, if you are a serious buyer you will wait 48 hours for the domain - IMHO

[edit] BTW - I think that this thread should be in the general chat forum

I would think that Paypal might wonder why he disputes all/most of his purchases.

I can understand the waiting to push a domain, but as a buyer I would be equally concerned that I am getting scammed.

How come you gave him a positive iTrader?

Oh wait, or did you give positive (green) at first and then later edit just the words?

Wiating 48 hours is a bit much for a buyer, I think - agree with fyi above that it may seem like being scammed the opposite way.

I just wanted to ask for permission...
Is it okay if I post this on ScamRadar.com?

Alternatively, you can submit the report yourself.
    Thanks!

pls post it on ScamRadar or anywhere else you feel it will help others

The postive itrader is a mistake, I wanted to chose negative but you can se the comment that goes with the itrader

Also 48 hours does not help, this guy waited like 5 days or so before ordering chargeback, claiming to paypal that he didn't authorise the payment making it seem as if his account was hacked or something

The only reason I can think to wait 48 hours after PayPal payment and before pushing the domain is to give you time to empty out your PayPal account.
But does this really work if you are using a verified account? PayPal will just try to go into your bank account...and if there's nothing there (like if you emptied out that bank account into your other bank account)...then they start collection efforts against you + limit or suspend your PayPal account...what am I missing?

What I think the domain community should do is show massive support for a unified petition asking PayPal to amend their terms for items such as domains, to afford sellers some protection. Actually, I am quite surprised that up to this point there hasn't been one worth mention(correct me if I'm wrong).
Currently their SPP does not support digital sales of any kind...including domains, websites etc.

I have not had the chance to really look at their terms.
1)What kind of protection do they offer a domain seller?
2)Are they easy to use for people in all countries?
3)How do they handle CC chargebacks?

Of course, before I sign up I will read the User Agreement and TOS myself,
in depth...just wondering if you could highlight some of the crucial points.
