by the old owner who let it expire.
How can I see if he is the old owner or just telling me a story.
He wants his domain back, guns and liquor.com for $100.
    Spaces put in for safety.

It's his fault for letting it expire, And even if he isn't the old owner :p Your making atleast 90$ off this. Or you could just hold on to it for another buyer, Or go build a site with the domain and sell it for more :)

I know. And I was trying to be nice if he was the original owner. But I have no way to verify that he was the previous owner. And he wants to use Paypal, will I be the next victim of the paypal scam lol

    Don't sell it!

Build it up big time and say you want $500 for it, no less. If he says yes to that say it's by direct Debit only or something along those lines! That should keep you safe! First consult your bank though!!

You have his domain, you have the power to say no, ask nasty amounts of money or make it your own successful site, not for sale at any price ;)

I went to web.archive.org and entered gunsandliquor.com. they have something called the "wayback machine" that archives everything back to 1996. There were two pages on file for the year 2001 and they are just "under construction" pages. I'd say this guy is full of crap and is trying to scam you out of your domain. Although 100 bucks ain't bad. But he never had a site on it.

I'm a firm believer in Karma. What goes around will come around. $100 sounds like a fair price, unless you really wanna stick it to him, just know that someone may do the same to you in the future, on some other level.

Just verify his name and match it with the PayPal info and try to do everything you can to make sure he is not a scammer, was you are sure he is valid, go ahead and sell it. Unless of course you actually bought it to develop yourself, then it's yours and you can do what you please with the name.

If he was the owner then he can forward you emails from the registrar he had it registered with to prove that.

If he was only sitting on the name as an investment then I'd keep it if you want it or offer to sell it to him for what it's worth to YOU.

If he had a live site, which it doesn't appear he did based on a wayback search by someone else here then I think the right thing to do would be to sell it back. Of course, you're not obligated to do that.

My mom likes to tell the story about her and my dads honeymoon at Virginia Beach and the beach sweeper who found her wedding ring in the sand and returned it to her and my dad the next day when he figured out who had lost it. Clearly not "required". Clearly something that put that fine man in the "angel" category! This happened back in the 50's and I still hear stories like this from time to time.

If you confirm he was the owner and you do sell it back to him let me know and I'll be sure to write a blog post about your good deed on a dot com blog I own.

I'd get as much out of him as possible. He is obviously trying to scam you for a great domain.

Awesome, I asked for his name, phone number, address, and a real email account, not gmail. And I said he could have it for $100 even on paypal, which was not brightest move from knowing chargeback problem now.

The Waaaay back machine sounds cool. I gotta look into that. It proved this guy is untrue.

But he never replied back!! This after saying how much he wanted it. I'll post his emails.

    Hi Steven,

I found your contact info on GoDaddy's whois and am contacting you in regards to the liquorandguns.com domain.

I owned that domain from late 2000 through last fall when it expired without my knowledge. For some reason I thought it was good through this year and hadn't changed the contact email to this account. Anyway, I would really like to get that back and start using it again. Please let me know if that's possible.

    thank you very much,

    Mat Gillen

It won't let me add any more rep. I will rep the rest of the posts tomorrow.

I'll find another good deed to get a link from mauiman :)

Sounds good, but it's hard to build a new site if you don't have any experience in this field.
