    You don't think, that's the problem. :D

Kidding aside, the Olympics Committee does "police" their trademark rights for
the world olympics. Search around enough and you'll find various samples.

They may find them, they may not. But if they do, well...up to you.

    One can always hope.

It doesn't necessarily matter whether others can get away with it or not, or if
the trademark holder will practically go after anyone they can, as long as laws
and/or decisions exist upholding certain rights and their ability to enforce it. In
this case, trademark laws allows one to protect their mark rights against any
and all those who potentially infringe it.

Even if you choose to ignore their "threats" or whatever you perceive them to
be, they can always dispute your registration and possibly take them, even if
    you don't agree with it.

I knew cases at 2004 that the sites were instantly taken down from the registrars
They have not only to protect the games but their sponsors too and you understand for what amount of money we talk here
Other sites the registrars "paused" them until they would be able to examine them closer and this was after the Olympics that the site was useless

If it's any clue, I registered several domains with the word "Olympics" in them about 6 months ago and Sedo wouldn't even list them because of the trademark infringement liability. Luckily I was able to drop them within the 5-day window.

it all depends on how you use the domains but there shouldnt be any trade mark problems if you are careful...

I have a good domain but I haven't started promoting it yet.

London 2012 are being very strict with regards to what you can/can't say.
