Western Union ~ Help Needed!

    Hey

I'm expecting my first payment using Western Union soon and need to know a bit more about it.

Firstly, how do I clam my money? I see WU signs on shops near me so I guess I can use them, but do they pay cash?

Also, is it possible for the person sending money to reverse the payment or chargeback?

    Thanks

Western Union payments can't be reversed. The person sends you the money through a local western union office, then provide you with his name and MTCN (Money Transfer Control Number). You go to local western union office (almost instantly after he has sent the money) and provide your ID, the name of the sender and the MTCN, then cash out the money.

Is it your choice as to whether you get cash or cheque?

As far as I know you can only get cash. You need to ask the shops if they offer western union quick cash - because some offer them, and some don't. You'll have to fill out a form to claim your money - and on this form, you'll have to fill in your's and the senders addresses, the money transfer control number and also show your ID card. Then they'll give you cash in either US$ or your local currency (depending on the shop).

As the member above posted: (in Germany) you get cash only. There are some countries for which you even need a secret question/answer to get the money because in some countries you don´t have to privde ID, just MTCN and senders info are enough to collect the money. But USUALLY you need an ID to get the money.

And as said before: of course there is no chance to reverse anything with WU, once the cash has been paid it is paid and stays paid

How to claim the money is easy, all you need is:
    1. Your valid ID
    2. MTCN, it's 10 digits, the sender should inform you this
    3. Sender's name, country.

Just go to WU outlet and tell them you wanna pick up some cash, you just need to fill a form and present your ID. If everything is correct you'll receive your money in minutes.

And no, there's no chargeback whatsoever. Once you receive the money, it's yours! :D

    Best of luck!

Why did you send the money? To pay somebody? Beware of fraud, you should not send money to the people you don't know/trust.

You can check the transfer status via this link:
    https://wumt.westernunion.com/asp/orderStatus.asp?country=global

All you need is the MTCN and sender's name. It will show you if the money has been picked up or not.

I believe any form of government issued ID is sufficent.

Certainly this is the case in Ireland - a passport, drivers license, Age Card or similar will work.

You can go to WesternUnion website and check if the money has been picked up yet. If it has then you have been scammed, if not then you can decide if you wanna wait some more days (maybe the money will be picked up and the other party will contact you (possible he won´t contact you and you have been scammed) or the money will still not be picked up) or you go to the WesternUnion branche where you sent the money from with the reciept when you sent the money and you can let you pay back the money. Therefor you also need an ID like if you were the reciever. You will get back then the full amount you sent but of course not the fees you paid to send the money.

So these are your options, it´s your decision how to go on. At first I would check the status online

    regards

    Hi DP Members

Thanks for the feedback, it was collected a week ago so i will pop down to the local authorites as per Westen Unions instructions they will then provide this information to the Portugal police and Western Union will give them a copy of the signature and information on ID used

    Thanks

WU payment is irreversable. You need to show MTCN number[which you have to know from sender]+ id card to WU office inorder to take cash.

i have a question though... on westernion.com you have an option to pay with a credit card

what if somebody uses a hacked credit card to pay you? will it get reversed? what if WU notices its hacked AFTER you pickup the cash, what happens, do they call collections on you and you have to give it back?

It´s very hard to send WU with a hacked CC because the first time it is used on a new WU-account they will call you back asking questions which usually only the actual cardholder can answer.

It is reversible as long as the cash has not been picked up.

As long as you're receiving the payment, you'll be fine and yeah! a payment can be reversed until the cash has been collected.
