in your google webmasters account you will see links. And besides the link the date when the page is crawled. The value of the links is also depending of how long the link exist of course. And signature links are by the way not really that valuable. After all they all come from the same website/ IP address.

I have seen a website with
-71 signature links from 1 forum
    -2 nofollow links
-1 Pr3 dofollow blog comment link
    The result: PR 2

and I have seen websites with
-850 signature links from the same forum
with as result also a PR 2.
And by this last site I haven't even looked at the other inbound links it has.

Having a signature link for a month may only cause a little positive effect on the short run. Not on te long run and you only want permanent links if you do link building.

And when your site is new it may not even really affect your ranking when the inbound link only exist for a month, maybe only the crawl frequently on the short run, but don't count on positive effects.

I believe they are trying to build up their pr right before the update so google will give them a good PR. Then that site will have that high PR untill the next update.

Personally google pagerank doesn't mean anything except for viewers looking at the toolbar. Google constantly updates the serps for high ranking page.

A pr 0 site can easily get on page 1 of google.

Well, no one really knows when the next PR update will come. IF you have the quality backlinks for longer period of time, then you are supposed to have higher PR.

I think google update frequently but they just display the update every 3 months. They do this to avoid webmaster from spying on their algo.

Signatures can definitely work for or against you depending on how long they've been up, how many places, and how many posts per place. The two sites I own are linked in my signature in many places. One has thrived in less time than the original that has been there longer.

Where do some of you get your information from (misinformation)?

Google update PR everyday. They have done that for several years now. Occasionally (every 3-4 months) they export a historical representation of that internal PR to the toolbar for us to be amused with. They do not calculate it just before the export to the toolbar (they stopped doing that 3-4 yrs ago).

I totally agree. There are to much noobs around here who are misinforming other honest newbies. These guys only cause more confusion in the seo world then there already is.

I have seen to many ugly posts, just to get another dofollow link.

This really frustrates me, especially because I am used better quallity content from forum members on another forum with less users. But I don't tell which forum because I also see that some of these link spammers from here are already coming there.

IMO the admin from Digital Point should put nofollow on every link from new users with less then 100 posts. This should slow these grabby children down.

If you come on this forum. Feel totally free to ask questions.
But don't feel free to answer if you are not sure your answer is true.

The answer to Secret Squirrel his question is simple to answer:
They get the answers from people on this forum who only be here to get links to their websites.

This don't have to be wrong when the answers are fulfilling the needs of the asker. But that's the problem here, posts are to short and here and there full of bullshit.

Google is calculating your backlinks all the time. The only thing that changes in a PageRank update is the toolbar. In Google's eyes your website can be PR5 even though the toolbar is showing PR2 bec it isn't up to date. So if you are not gonna sell blog post/links you pretty much don't care about when google is updating its toolbar/pagerank.

Google continuously counting backlinks as one of the factors in SERP, if you have many backlinks from forums or other site, they are more like serves only as way to index your site but have little or no effect at all on PR and SERP so just like other said, think of getting quality backlinks anytime.

As most in this thread keep telling you. They DO update it every day. They just export a snapshot historical representation of the PR to the tool every 3-4 months that is already out of date when we get to see it.

I have only been a member here for a week and can not believe how mush absolute rubbish gets posted. I have seen posts on other forums like "digitalpoint sucks". I am starting to understand why. The noise to signal ratio is so high with so much misinformation. This thread is a perfect eg.
