My Google Experience so far

I launched my first website ever about 1 month ago, and here is what's going on:

    Background:
    1) The website is a real estate website, in a major metropolitan city (Boston)
    2) I researched SEO on these forums for about 6 months before even starting the website
    3) Im targeting around 10+ keywords (such as South Boston Real Estate, etc.) -- however really focusing on 2-3 on the anchor texts of backlinks

    Observations so far:

    1) After a week of launching the website... With 0 Backlinks.....NO Meta tags or description.... I was #1 for a major keyword for about 2 days --- and then disappeared of the SERP's. The reason I may have been so high, is the Title tag...

    2) I'm back online for that keyword.... and was #9 about a week ago.... #10 a few days ago... and now down to around #13

    3) I just started building Backlinks from real estate directories... and right now I have around 5 do-follow low quality backlinks, and 1 pagerank 2 .org backlink that doesnt appear to be showing up yet (according to the linkdomain function on yahoo, & SEO Spyglass)

    4) I dont plan on doing any reciprocal linking....... and I have considered buying links, but im worried

    Future Plans:

It sounds like, content is key... build an extremely good website, with tons of good content... build tons of backlinks, dont use black hat SEO..... build backlinks by submitting to directories, and writing articles & press releases, and posting on do-follow blogs... constantly update the site....

Does this kind of activity sound strange? It was strange being #1 on Google within a week of launching the site, having no backlinks --- and then disappearing, & reappearing

Any feedback, advice, or tips would be great!!!

It is quite normal for a new site to get good SERP and go down very fast. It happens with many sites, nothing to worry. probably after 3 months or so, it might start making a return.

Good that you are avoiding reciprocal linking. Most realestate sites use blackhat SEO and it is very easy to end up linking to a penalised site. Buying links is okay, but be careful. Dont buy links on typical places like footers and better avaoid even sitewide links. Also make sure that they dont sell too many links.

Also you can use the forums signature space to promote your website, I can see you have 100+ post yet no signature.
