I just found this today: http://marketplace.sitepoint.com/auctions/38054 PR6 domain, 1300$ in earnings. Bidding directory age - 1 month. Every time I see a site like this earning annoys me. How can someone possibly pay to be included there? LIONSANIME.com. What relation does it have with a bidding directory at all? This type of sites are the doom of the directory business. Oh and before you red rep me, think twice and write your username too.
In fairness the owner has promoted the site quite well over the past few weeks. I just finished coding his custom phpLinkBid theme today too.
I saw this directory in the announcements section a couple weeks ago. I figured this would be coming soon! I am looking at the site and my main observation is - The point of offering a recommended sites box on the front page of a bidding directory is what??? Isn't the concept to BID yourself there? Kind of spoils the whole process doesn't it?
Only becoz he brought some signatures & links doesn't denote it a PROMOTED site. The fact still remains, the owner is purely cashing on a PR6 and then now he knows his PR would soon be dumped. So sell it! Purely a QBC nomination.
Bloody hell, the guy wants $15k for that crap! He probably invested a couple of hundreds getting some links and that was it...well I'm pretty sure he's gonna find a looser to get that site...
More fool on the person who buys it I say. Threads like this will go a long way to making sure people are aware its not worth it.
He just looks for naives and it happens many times that he will find one. Just a way to make cash. I have my own name for such people: "HYENA". - D.
Sad to see that some actually support this kind of crap. Dropped domain with foolbar PR looking to cash in on the unsuspecting. Really pathetic.
I was just looking for the good side in things. I've been slated for being negative of such issues in the past so was "trying to look on the bright side" You are all quite right though. PR6 > 1 month > cash from bids and sidebar sales > sitepoint.
PR6 > 1 month > cash from bids and sidebar sales > sitepoint = QBC Material By the looks of it everyone at Sitepoint is aware of the scammers and wont fall for these tricks anymore PS... nice work on the site/template laterz malcolm
I know First post since February. Glad to see him back, although I think I caught him lurking at one point
IMHO, his isn't exactly the ruin of the directory business. I mean what's wrong as long as the seller is being open about all the facts involved? If, after seeing all the stats etc. etc., the buyer still wants to go ahead, then it's his prerogative.
The problem is that you spend hours per day on promoting your directory and there comes one with a dropped PR6 domain and earns more then you from his first day
Yeah Rezo, I totally understand where you're coming from. It's unfair on you guys but my point is that if the seller actually reveals the fact that it is a dropped domain he picked up, then there aren't many issues with that if the buyer is comfortable laying down the cash after he knew about the validity of PR.
Well, nobody claims that he scams the buyer or anything. The problem is that such things actually exist and they are appreciated, as seen from his earnings.
