Thank you for reading this topic! The question is not as simple to answer as you think, any responses that help = Rep+ Question: How do I purchase a domain that is already owned? (Apparently) I am looking to purchase a domain but is apparently not available. The Whois results show this: What I don't quite understand is that if the domain has already expired on the 25th March 2008, how can it still be unavailable to purchase 9/10 weeks later? And even then how has it been updated 2 months after it expired?!?! I cannot find anything on the domain in the Internet Archives and the domain does not load at all nor is registered to any nameservers. Unfortunatly this domain seems to have been locked into a loophole by the looks of it but I was wondering how do I go about purchasing it because according to the Whois it says it expired months ago? Do I call a registrar asking what the problem is? Is there any legal reason this domain would not be available? It is not a persons name or anything, so I have put it in the legal section to understand what on earth is happening and for some advice on how to approach the situation! The Whois does not show a name nor address to contact and I have a feeling that it has something to do with it being set as Redemption Period, but as I cannot find anything in Internet archives or anything on it in google about its history or past what so ever why on earth would it still be in Redemption if it was never used?? A redeption period on a domain is 30days maximum? So why 2 months later is it still unavailable?? Thanks and I hope you here at DP can help me solve this weird mystery that doesn't seem to make sense! Rep+ to anyone who does a decent contribution to this thread! Thanks and I apprecaite any & all help given. Many Thanks, Kind Regards.
This maybe of some interest to you. http://www.sitepoint.com/article/period-farce-exposed Call the registrar and find out. It isn't one of the big name registrars, right ?
Thank you for the link, Rep+! Yes they are rather large, it's 1 HOST AMERICA, INC. I will call them and find out what is happening etc Any tips on what to say to them? Obviously I will need to bring out the "Under this legislation it says this" card. Any tips though or other ideas on what to do or what may have happened? Rep+ for every good reply. Regards.
I have called this registrar and they have said they will email me details but as yet nothing? What can I do to aquire this domain? It is vital to my company expansion! Please help!
BackOrder it via www.snapnames.com and as soon as it becomes available, snapnames will quickly register it for you. I registered a few good domains this way.
what domains did you register? What happens if for some reason the owner re purchases it? Do you loose money? Regards
Probably because the wrong date is being looked at. You're correct that RGP is 30 days, but its "countdown" begins at the last updated date line. Check the domain name again. Its status should change to pending delete by today, then become available on its 6th day at 2PM EST.
If you backorder domain ( most known companies SnapNames.com, NameJet.com, Pool.com ) you don't pay anything unless they catch it for you. Price for sucessfull backorder is around 60$. And if there is more people who backordered the name domain is sent to auction and then the highest bidder wins. Good luck.
Thanks! So looking at those dates when should I expect it to be ready? It is now saying Pending Delete...
Status: pendingDelete Updated Date: 09-jun-2008 Creation Date: 25-mar-2007 Expiration Date: 25-mar-2008 It says this, so I should look for it on 15th June correct? Is this American or UK time though? Its hosted through a Registrar in America but unsure on this? Thanks for your continued input! Rep+!! Regards
If this is a .com, it's 2PM Eastern Standard Time (EST) America because the .com Registry, which registrars mostly follow, is based in Virginia. As a rule of thumb, registrars follow the timeline of where the extension's Registry's based at.
Redemption period means the owner is still able to renew it, pending delete means it will schedule for deletion but here is my own experience. I have seen com, net, info, us, co.uk and org.uk being deleted at 12:00 am the scheduled day, but I have been unable to re-register them until 12:00 pm the following morning. We are talking about GMT hours. Nominet usually sent you a printed notice for UK domains claiming that domains are deleted effectively some time after 9:00 am next day. I have tried to register domains with the above extension shortly around midnight and I have only succeeded between 12:00 pm adn 1:00 pm GMT, probably due to season of the year in which Daylight Saving Time is in effect.
Thanks for the feedback! Rep+! But what date? I have established the time but you say 6 days after pending delete? So that would make it 15th June? Correct? Thanks Regards
