My painting your position as conspiratorial was my honest answer. I don't see things as being controlled from the top down by elites. I don't think the media and political system are in cahoots in some grand way.
The problems you point out with the system and attribute to global conspiracy I attribute to voter apathy.

Right, but you don't know much if anything about the people you choose to vote, or not vote for, so with that in context, if you don't know what you are voting for, how could I possibly expect you to see how the system is constructed to maintain the status quo.

I forget where I was reading it, but the entire thing boils down to polling. If you don't prove yourself in the media, you don't get included on the polls, or on the primary poll menu. But if you don't poll well, you can't prove yourself to the media.

What % does a Presidential candidate need in national polling to get included in the Presidential debates? And are Presidential debates sponsored by the state, or private corporate interests?

Because if this is such a healthy democracy, I'm wondering why we only have two choices every 4 years, and that has been the status quo with the exception of Ross Perot for almost 100 years.

well to answer the op's question, id say America for the whole of the country, because i live in England and i know more about who is the president of America and who is going to be up in the next election than i do about the president of the EU, maybe thats just me

A lot of the discussion of two party systems v. coalition governments is interestingly discussed in the work of Seymour Martin Lipset, an important thinker in the area of social cleavages and sociology generally. Here's my brief thought on the "why" of 2-party systems, such as in the U.S.:

In other words, one can rail against the two party system, but I think to do so ignores the underlying reasons why the two parties do or do not thrive. In this context, I've always found this notion of "direction" in competition fairly interesting. I hope it gives some food for thought.

 

Just in reading this I'd say the US because:

The Senate with its 2 people per state evens out the balance and prevents the large states from assuming control via the House of Reptiles.

But ... the reality is the businesses are in charge in the US so I don't know if it matters one way or the other. The Freedom of Speech argument extending so widely to business speech that we get soooooo much junk from email, telemarketing, US mail, (sometimes) people knocking on the door, etc just proves that.
