Well, a link to your forum would be a nice start.

What have you done to promote your forum? What kind of nitch does your forum cover? What kind of modifications do you have installed? Are you doing any video advertisements on youtube, metacafe, break, dailymotion or yahoo video?

More information would be really nice.

You could always pay them or offer revenue sharing.

oh really? oh that's sad! easy way to advertise and spam your link, eh?

Well, back to topic.. there are many ways to encourage people to post on forum...

Here are some that I could think of...

    - Hold contests and give away prizes

    - Have point system, ever post made equals certain points, kind of like gambling - it's competitive and addictive ... then have a contest and give away a good prize for person with most points (or most posts ;))

    - At my forum I usually hold contests one after another, to keep the members busy and they really do enjoy it whether they lose or win..

    - One of the best way to encourage is, and the most sufficient way is to just have discussion going on that others are interested, not just because you told them to post. Keep the content rolling, and you'll get replies in return.

I run a forum as well, web-talks.com and check out the contests (can be found here) i run to get an idea...

That can get a active community for your forum, it can also backfire by people making spam posts...

Postbait/troll your own forum. Say outlandish things or make over the top posts about something, and people will register to smack you back.

Postbait on other forums related to yours and drop your forum link in your sig. People will start wanting to post/discuss with your forum.

If done right, you won't get into any actual trouble by postbaiting on forums. Don't be an outright troll...just be a glorified attention whore. :D

Well yeah of course .. everything has a negative impact of some sort.. if you run a forum, you'll have to be willing to spend hours in deleting spam, installing mods, etc... so i don't think that should be a issue...!

I ran a contest for 4 months for a monthly "Best Member".

Howeverm I realized that many members were just posting for the sake of it.

It was diluting the quality of my forum and so I discontinued the contest.

I prefer that only genuinely interested members post on my forum...even if it means just a few posts a day.

#1 Have Activity On The Forum. You wouldn't go to DP so often if people only responded once a day, would you?
For that, consider some paid forum posting. (see sig.)

#2 Get Traffic. Just like any other website... do some posting on related forums to advertise your own, get backlinks, SEO etc.
