We should be able to ban certain countries or have the option to do so ourselves.

That's very bad idea, cause you are going to block billions of people from communicating with you.

I agree but there are also other countries that need to do the same including the U.S. We all make the net what it is and we all have a responsibility for making it better or worse.

(Pretty profound for a Troll) :p

That's an overgeneralization and distortion when you say we all.
Sure, looking at the web and the world globally, you are right.
You live in Michigan? I know for a fact that there are parts of Detroit you would NEVER walk thru at night.
Yet we open ourselves up online.

I say give us all the option to pick countries or regions we want NO results from until those countries show some respect to the international community and clean up their own backyard.

I will give you that. I am sure there are a lot of other places we in the U.S. would not walk at night also man. I am just saying we have the same stuff here at home. I live in a small town but I get disrespected more here then I do when I go to the big city.

What I am getting at is it is not just Russia and China man. It is a disease spreading across the world as of late. I get all manners of spam from all countries. We as a people need to make things better because no one will do it for us.

Banning may be the solution in the short term but will not work in the long run. Whether we like it or not we ARE a global economy now and China has one of the fastest growing ones at the moment. There are bound to be people that cause havoc I agree but to single out two nations when the problem is global is not right either.

I am not saying to keep them banned, I am talking about giving everyone an option to keep them off of their pcs. You can say what you want about the U.S. or the U.K. spammers, but I highly doubt that a lot of people will ban results from those nations, but given the option, I can see about 80 percent of internet users saying "no" to Russia and "no" to China.

I can see it also my friend. I tend to get a lot from Africa. Those ones annoy me more then anything. I would give the shirt off my back if someone truely needed it but those are scams and I know it.

I think it's the thread title/poll that's making people bash the idea and voting no. I don't think Russa and China should be banned from the internet since there a a LOT of good people there, though I would love it if I could block E-Mails from certian countries....like Russia and Nigeria and....

'Should we be able to block E-Mails from certain countries?' would of been a better title/poll and wouldn't of caused all this bashing, and would of probably got just about 100% yes vote.

Ninno is way smart, and I agree with everything he said. So basically vote for the option to filter spam by country of origin.

Actually nigerian scammers get A lot of kudos in their own country, they tend to be quite rich and are the envy of a lot of their own country men. THe problem with Spam from nigeria is that it is now a well recognised profession and the authorities only crack down wehen under extreme pressure, and then only on one individual.

If the system is open for abuses, people will abuse it. Some do it more and some do it less, but for sure some will do it. I've read somewhere that most of those stuff come from Holland, Czechs and Romania, it's just that they are not 1 billion countries like China so not noticed as much. Btw, there are really good spam filters on the net, also a free service, gmail is pretty advanced.
