I have been posting in high PR blog comments + forums.

What to do for marketing now that I have achieved a PR5?

Article marketing always works well, if you are creating quality articles. I guess you just have to keep going as you are, eventually you'll reach a 'tipping-point'.

As noted above, create quality and well researched unique based articles, and try to entice visitors to leave comments, and perhaps subscribe to try build loyal visitors...

If you have a PR of 5 I would look at two options. Check out an ad service that will give you a good price for a PR5 site. There are a lot out there. Or look to sell your blog if you don't want to keep up with it anymore.

    The thing is, I don't have a "blog" . It's a social networking site.

How do I write articles for that?

You should probably buy some more links to keep the pagerank, and do some traffic building to gain even more. Then, find ways to monetize your site, via ads and referrals.

Umm perhaps you could start building a real business and forget the time you wasted trying to get a PR5...

It's not your fault though, its the plethora of crap advice that gets posted here.

Unfortunately, that's very true. PR is just a green epeen and the only way it can be monetized is selling links to people who think PR is worth anything.

Since it's a social networking site, collecting and selling user data may be an option for revenue, targetted ads can work fine (by age, interests, etc.), but it boils down to offering a quality service to become popular and make money with it.

There are too many avenues of marketing you could take. Here are few to mention:
    - classified ads
    - social networking
    - contest
    - viral
    - articles

You'll need some good unique content to start getting decent traffic from the search engines. Worry more about the content and back links and not toolbar pagerank and you'll be all set :)
