The yahoo directory is in a right mess, all of its internal links are mixed up with lower case and uppercase and these other weird sub-domains coming into the equation. A few of the top cats. with enough external links will probably be ok but most of the directory will probably be dropped from the engines. http://www.seoco.co.uk/blog/2008/06/09/yahoo-directory-seo/
Maybe you need to check your facts first. Yahoo have been doing it that way for years (with a few slight changes in the format) and Google can still pass the 'love' from those sorts of redirects (several posters confirmed that in the WMW thread linked to from your blog!).
Yahoo has been one of the major portal and directories, in terms of importance I would say it exceeded that of DMOZ etc. IMHO it is definitely useful for SEO.
Indeed.... I suppose your theory that they "blacked out" the inner pages of directories could be correct in that google is just hiding the actual PR of those inner pages. (maybe ) @Dave E thx for sharing your insight/knowledge on this issue I did enjoy Loren Baker comments.... "I mean, this isn’t some phpLinks spam directory selling links on DigitalPoint, this is the original Yahoo!" As always mr cutts answered the question.... kind of thx malcolm
Both has massive index's with most categories having a few links in every category. But like someone else said ... If its due to it being a paid directory then why are all FREE directories being stripped as well and why wasnt botw stripped? Someone else commented... Nows the perfect time to hurt your #1 competitors cash flow when they are weak/hurting for revenue I reckon only time will tell thx malcolm
Matt Cutts said it was due to changes in pages. He said they had plenty of PR internally in the system, which was another hint IMO that they are stripping toolbar PR from such sites to deter link buyers.
Very possible If you recall i did mention a few months ago that some directories are in the top ten beating out PR5 -6 directories in the serps so that could very well be the case. thx malcolm
I've got a shock when i did read the thread title... but Iam sure you are wrong. Google isn't that stupid in indexing links/content!
I have already noticed enough evidence that clearly points towards this to make me a believer. I started a thread recently with some observations.
