I have a forum with 700 uniques per day. It has done 5000+ on some days.

20 GB (bandwidth) per month is the max that it has ever used.

    1) linux
    2) 200gb to 500gb is plenty for future growth
    3) dreamhost or hostgator (for shared hosting) or theplanet/serverbeach (for dedicated)

If you are talking about 200GB, why not i opt for a dedicated server?

Because dedicated servers cost a minimum of 100$/month,unmanaged, and I doubt you will make enough money with your numbers :) 200gb might be too much, it depends on what you have on the forum (images, videos etc or just text)

I doubt that all your members will be visiting the forum everyday.

Even my forum has 2000+ users, but my unique visitors are around 700 per day.

Even if you get XXXX visitors a day, I doubt you will need more than 100 GB per month. (Assuming your users won't be downloading images, files etc).

I use vbulletin and have got reseller hosting from micfo.com. ($25 for 200 GB bandwidth per month).

I am going to use TEXT, and 5-10% of the forums would be images. So this is the TEXT only all around the fourm.

I don't think you need a dedicated server.

I suggest you start with shared hosting or a reseller package.

If you think your forum requires more resources, your host can always upgrade you.

    These are my stats:

Even at 5000 visits/day, my forum doesn't consume much more than 1 GB of bandwith.

(The site wasn't down on the days for which the stats are missing. The host performed some kind of upgrade on those days and so the stats weren't recorded).

I think micfo is quite reliable.

The best thing I like is about them is that they have 24 X 7 live support and most issues get resolved quite fast.

Once in a while, the servers have problems, but then I don't know any host that has a 100% uptime.
