I have uploaded a new site http://www.information-4u.com The index page is very simple in both design and navigation. Do you think it is too simple (plain)? What advice can you give me?
personally i would have to neaten that page up, different colors, fonts, yea...that website needs the works yes its way too simple lol
^ Agreed. Simple is good, especially for an information nexus, but simple doesn't mean no stylesheets or tables.
Simple is always good, but I wouldn't describe your site as simple. It's not easy to navigate when all that is on the index is a large list of links. I suggest that you organise the site better, a few categories could do the site a world of good. Like what you have done when you click through to read the articles. The background colour also is dreadful, I would put a white background on that....
Simple design is very good couple with good content. With regards to your site, you need to do some amendments. Try and categorise them into a proper table, the information are too scattered. Also, try and change the background collour to something like white, it will make your site more attractive.
Yes, simple is the aim! But not that simple... you need more that just a table of different categories... actually, when you first engage in webdesign it's best to go for it! Go completely over the top! You soon learn from your mistakes...
The background was white, but I changed it to give it a bit of colour. I agree that categorizing is a good idea. though some subjects may fall into more than one category. At the moment all the subjects are alphabetical. Perhaps I should make the subjects smaller so that they fit half the page and have categories on the top half of the page linking to a page where the category is explained and there would be links to the subjects. I am also thinking of making a banner for my index page.
I agree. It seems like categories are spreading all ove the page. It would look better if they are in a fixed table.
I think the colour I have chosen is soothing and pleasing to the eye. It is light enough not to hide the text, but also sticks in the mind for being a bit different. Why do you think white is better? If a lot of people think white is better I will change it when I have done the categories. The problem with tables is that some categories have more subjects and some have very few. This would give my page an uneven look unless I use drop downs. Of course with drop downs my page would be neater, but the viewer would not be able to see all the subjects at a glance. So I thought I could have them as I do now, but smaller or on the sides of the page. What do you think?
This is the website of our company: www.jiulongfoods.com I know it is very shabby and many problems exist. Any feedback will be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance...
You should start a new post to ask about your site, otherwise we don't know whose site is being commented on. I had a quick look at your site and found that the text is too far to the left and going into the green section. Good luck!
The underlying pages are nice. If I saw an index page like this I would leave thinking it was another useless site. I would make the front page look more like the underlying pages. Q...
Simple is good, but your website is rather bland and unappealing [I live in a glass house myself]. Simple, yet beautiful is the way to go. Simplicity doesn't mean you should compromise on elegance, beauty .... that kind of thing. The homepage needs work and the others have given some good suggestions. It looks like a useless site or a parked domain instead of an informative site. Also provide some info on what the site is about on the homepage. I don't like the big green bar on an article page that crowds out articles. It should be narrower.
If you want my honest opinion: Make it set-width Choose a better background color Change your font to something like Arial Use google co-op search instead of the one that you are using now. Get a good content management system. You have a very bad google page rank for a site like that. You should submit your content to article websites with a link to you in the resource box at the bottom. You should categorize your catergories. For example, web-design, web-development, web-hosting, and website-traffic, should all come under the category "Internet" or even "Computers>Internet"
