Do Directories really improve rank? or are they considered link farms and bad neighborhoods by google?
I got PR for one of my sites that had only directory links and internal links. I am inclined to think directory improve PR (though they may not contribute in SERPs and traffic). We all know that there are link farms, bad neighborhood directories but there are good directories too and you have to decide which ones are worth submitting to You can normally check 'latest submissions' page and see what kind of sites they are approving
Every link will help you to improve your pagerank, although link quality is not the same for every directory in the world.
I guess only few good directory services like Blog Catalog,Blog Flux ,Blog Top Sites are enough as they nearly have PR6 and provide good traffic through ranking and and their ability To Read RSS feeds. In nutshell they increase ur Page rank but u've to be specific about what to choose
Now let me see...... Simple question to answer, directories do help with Serps. How do I know? One of my sites has PR and a good few first page listings, 80-90% of my backlinks are from directories. Thanks Brian
Maybe those 20-10% did the trick? I have never experimented by only getting directory links, but for moderately competitive Keywords, directory links work...
I have never given a red rep but I would like to get an explanation. I have experimented and have seen a PR boost so directory submissions are not dead yet.
Directories are a source of link popularity which as we know is essential in SEO. We can't tell how much benefits they bring as it entirely depends on the quality of the directory and your on page SEO.
They improve page rank and serps, if they really are bad neighborhoods then google must be choosing to turn a blind eye for some of my sites because sites ive heavily promoted with directories do pretty well.
I may be on another planet here but haven't Google made sure that directories don't allow page rank at all any more?
For the 1000000xxxx time the answer is YES. Good directories and smart submissions can work wonders for you.
Now that is a better answer. The thing is humm, no-one can deny that lots of directories have become worthless, anyone saying otherwise would be either a fool or a liar to themselves. Good directories though, yes, I agree that should definitely help.
Go Here and read Googles Webmaster Guidleines under where it says "When your Site is Ready" It says Submit your site to relevant directories such as the Open Directory Project and Yahoo!, as well as to other industry-specific expert sites. So YES! Directories Clearly do help.
