Recently, Matt Cutts said that Google looks skeptically at .info domains. .info registrations dropped by almost 50,000 over the month of May. DomainNews.com is attributing this to that skepticism. http://www.domainnews.com/en/general/domain-registrations-as-of-june-1st-2008.html I would like to think that Google may look differently at aged .info domains, since they have to be renewed at full price. That being said.... If anyone knows of any .info domains listed on the first page of Google, Yahoo or MSN please post them. (multi-forum post)
i didnt think it made any difference apart from them being cheap i think normal everyday internet users see them as sites that have information and dont think my sites have ever really suffered because of it
.info sites I have developed are on the first page. you just have to trust me on that, i would prefer not to share the websites. I know Spain.info ranks for its primary keyword on google.com
My site has disappeared yesterday (the second time after the May 23). We write travel guides and news. Many many travel guides! Our contents are on Google News. We have a lot of sitemap linked to Webmaster tools! But I lost all my #1 keywords.. my site drop from 1° pages to 28° pages for the Matt Cutt's skepticism... but my competitors with spam .com have now my positions! Good job Matt... a very good job!
Can you share at least one website and its number 1 rank search term. To original post, i don't know any site rank number 1 with .info extension at this moment.
It doesn't mean .info ranks worse in general, it's just less likely to get a spammy .info ranked than a spammy .com since google seems to have a little closer look at .info's...but a good site with useful content will always rank well regardless of the extension.
one of my .info is top 1, another one is 3th. nothing different from .com, net, etc. domain is domain. important one is website.
I too own a .info domain and have not at all seen any difference in the rankings, it's still the same and is 6 months old. If you have a really good content, it's going to rank where it should irrespective of any tld.
Usually I see .com in the top 10. No idea if Google penalize these domains, I just don't use them. Saving a few bucks on a domain won't make me rich
If google needs to hit .info sites for stoping spam then it means that they are losing ground.Anyone can use any tld for spam. It's google's job to seperate them.
ive noticed recently that people are paying less and less for sites with .info tld Most "niche" sites that you sell for sale here used to got for 60-$80 but now ones with .info are fetching alot less
I still believe that domain names doesnot matter much even in the view of Search Engines if the site has good quality contents and strong backlinks......Anyone agreeing with me!!
