meta name="description" <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <meta name="distribution" content="Global" /> <meta name="author" <meta name="copyright" content="Copyright © 2007 <meta name="classification" content="" /> <meta name="page-topic" content="" /> <meta name="RATING" content="" /> <meta name="robots" content="" /> <meta name="revisit-after" content="" /> <meta name="expires" content="" /> <meta name="language" content="EN" /> <meta name="RATING" content="RTA-5" /> Do you have to have all the above meta tags? Are any 'must have' meta tags missing? Do you have to include all of them and is there any impact on SE traffic of not having some of them - apart from obviously description and keywords tag? Is it necessary to have these tags on all pages? TY BAD
Not required.... <meta name="distribution" content="Global" /> <meta name="author" <meta name="copyright" content="Copyright © 2007 <meta name="classification" content="" /> <meta name="page-topic" content="" /> <meta name="RATING" content="" /> <meta name="robots" content="" /> <meta name="revisit-after" content="" /> <meta name="expires" content="" /> <meta name="language" content="EN" /> <meta name="RATING" content="RTA-5" /> Code (markup):
They're not required as a lot of search engines are taking less information from the meta tags... and I believe the ones you listed just aren't required.
I agree with above posts.. They are not required.. ad only those tags which you need ie. like if you don't want any page to be index then no noindex etc.. Only description and keyword tags matter and that very little too!
Last I checked majority of search results use the meta description in search listings, that seems to be more than "very little" in my opinion.
agree with you heman, you only include the title, description and keywords.. and this code. <meta name="Robots" content="index, follow, all">
Wicked SEO why would you use the default robots meta tag setting? You only use the robots meta tag when you do NOT want search engines to index a page etc... with this format- <meta name=â€robots†content=â€noindex, nofollowâ€> When you want search engines to spider your site fully leave it out as a waste of time. When it comes to Google rankings, no meta tags help. That said the description meta tag can sometimes be used as the search results snippet of text that potential visitors see, so for that reason include the description meta tag (but it doesn't count towards Google SERPs so write it for potential visitors, think increased click thru rates). I also include the keywords meta tag as well since it is used by other search engines, (currently not used by Google) but I don't worry much about what I put within it (usually copy the title element). Wrote about meta tags a while back here http://www.seo-gold.com/seo-tutorial/meta-tags-optimization still accurate. David Law
That's not necessary since the default action of search engines is to index all the content they can find and follow the links on those pages. It's just blaoted code that doesn't have a place in a modern Web page. Oh, and ssandecki hit the nail right on the head as far as which ones not to use.
