Hi, i'm running a WP site and have no idea what RSS Feeds are all about? What happens if someone signs up to my RSS feed? What is displayed on the RSS feed? What are the benefits of an RSS feed? What is feedburner all about and what should i do with regards to this, how does it benefit? Anybody who can answer even half a question will be of the greatest help. Does every single page have an individual feed?
As you have asked Ans1: if a user signup for your feed then he will get regular updates for your blog in his email to which he has subscribed for. Ans2: in rss feeds its just your posts that are being displayed Ans3: Rss feed give your blog user the flexibility to check what's been happening on your blog and if they find the content useful they click on the rss feed and visit your blog. also rss feeds displays the actually or real users who are interested in reading your blogs Ans3: feedburner is the third party service to provide feeds for your blog. Ans4: No not every individual page - every category has the individual feed hope this helps...
Good answers. Here's what matters: If I like your content, and I can subscribe to your RSS feed, I'll see all of your new posts in my feed reader and I'll visit your site when something interests me. If I like your content, but you don't have an RSS feed, I might visit again sometime if I remember, but I'll probably forget and never visit your site again.
RSS is an acronym for Really Simple Syndication and Rich Site Summary. RSS is an XML-based format for content distribution. The big benefit to RSS is that individuals opt-in to content of interest, totally controlling the flow of information that they receive.
The main benefit of RSS feeds is it publishes you're updated web page content and makes it available to public
Many Thanks to all of you for your informative responses it's really appreciated!! So why do people use feedburner with Wordpress, when Wordpress creates RSS feeds already? Does RSS feeds help from an SEO perspective or is it just help to keep my readers?
from an search engine optimization point of view is that it is more dependent in relevancy and freshness of the content. After all a feed is meant to be used to send changeable data to a user, as opposed to the traditional method of searching to see what's out there. The classic example of this is of course news headlines. The attraction of a feed is that you can see the most up to date stuff at a glance. The challenge for someone like yourself is to have that data updated regularly enough that it is attractive. I think the best advice for which is the techniques to use RSS for search engine optimization Focus is to use it as it was intended, namely a channel for information, and not an end in itself. Using RSS for a list of product pages For example, is boring to end users, and unlikely to find subscribers. An RSS feed used to publicise commissioned articles is much more useful. Hope, will Help you to consider some points in your RSS Feeds. Thanks John
