Both aren't, the real evil is how men make use of religion or money to do evil.

Kind of agree, but take some places in Africa for example. You have 1 gold mine and 5 armed militias, the result is 4 million dead (vast majority completely innocent women and children). If I was born there and it was kill or be killed, I would most likely be doing the same thing, all for securing a mine, slave labouring some kiddies and mining some gold so rich people around the world can show others that they're rich.

I don't think it's really about being evil, it's about survival, greed and power, which stem from the money from the gold.

based on how you pose the question, i would go with religion
as money is not the route of evil.
as it is written, It's the "love of money"
For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil.

Money within it self is not evil,
I believe when you put money above love, then it becomes evil.

If the world religions were followed as god had intended for them to be followed there would be amazing love and harmony on this earth. It is the natural greed in mans heart and soul that makes a perversion of the best parts within us. Left to his own vices man can create any law he wants and then good or evil becomes a point of view. One mans good becomes another mans evil.
I still remember that song by billy joel " we didnt start the fire":)

Route 66 is the route of all evil. they should really put up roadblocks so it doesn't get to travel anywhere else. Seems simple.

It is all about power. Ever see two young kids trying to boss each other around or assert which is the boss. Dominance and power are the root of the evils of the world. Some smart guy did a study and wrote a book called The Lucifer Effect. He pretty much sums up that good people do evil things when in power.

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have DOMINION over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26)

Notice it doesn't include dominion over each other.

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. [1 Timothy 6:10]

    Amen

I don't agree, some religions have pretty insane views. Even less extreme religions like Christianity have outdated beliefs about homosexuality amongst other things. Nearly all religions have a hard time accepting women as equal.

I agree with you. I don't see money or religion as inherently evil but certainly man has used both for selfish persuits.

Religion isn't the root of all evil, But it can provide some pretty good justification for evil.

Money is power not yet spent. So the lust for power is the root of evil.

Wow how did we get from money to religious views on women. In my religion Women are held in even higher regard than men in alot of areas, but this can only come by having a deeper knowledge of the core beliefs which alot of atheists simply dont have. I suggest alot more reading before you Judge, and then study the family structure today and then study our divorce rate today;).

I think it is pretty apparent that money is not the root of all evil. To steal a page from Francisco d'Anconia in "Atlas Shrugged".

"So you think that money is the root of all evil?" said Francisco d'Anconia. "Have you ever asked what is the root of money?"

Huh? The question is about religion being the root of all evil. So I'm talking about religion, it's not hard to grasp.

    1. A lot of religions treat women unfairly, even Christianity, where women aren't allowed to play certain roles because they're not men.
    2. Women being 'held in a higher regard' is still inequality between sexes, it's not a positive thing if women are purposely treated better than men, it's sexual inequality.
    3. Atheists don't have core beliefs? I won't even start on this one, I'll just say that I don't need to read a book to tell me how to be a good person, I'm a good rational person without one thanks.
    4. I don't see a high divorce rate as a bad thing, in the more 'religious days', there was a lot of social pressure on women to stay with their man, no matter how often he beat her, separated women and children were generally outcasts.
In todays world where religion has less of an influence, and personal freedom has more, we see a lot of divorces because people don't stay with each other if they're no longer compatible. If I don't like the person I'm living with for whatever reason, I'm going to go find someone I do like, I don't care what some religious book tells me to do, it's my life.

Back to the point, one of the reasons why I believe that religion is evil is because the views that a lot of major religions have on women and homosexuals are unequal and immoral. They also 'tend' to shun those who don't believe, and even worse those who believe in something different.
