I Have a successful Travel website, I've tried few times without success, to get listed on DMOZ. I made sure my description was relevant but still I can't get my Site Listed.

Could someone Please, give me some advice on how to get Listed on DMOZ.

The last time I submitted my site was a couple of months ago.

If you have already suggested your site to the single most appropriate category, thank you. You have completed your part of the process, there is nothing more that you can or need to do.

shadow575 is correct, once the site is submitted there is nothing left to do. Not even waiting should be done, as in many cases a site can take years to get in, in many other instances a site never makes it in.... though, sometimes a site can make it in within days.

    Submit & forget
    Forget 2 submit

The wait time can be about the same ;)

If it is the site in your sig to which you refer it is unlikely that it would every get listed. Although the content would appear to be unique it is minimal and is not high quality and the site would seem to only exist to drive users to your adverts.

What's the importance of being listed in DMOZ anyway instead of Yahoo or Google?

Google? Check their directory, you'll see that in order to make it into the google directory you must first make it into DMOZ. As for the importance of either, I know very few people that actually know what a directory is these days let alone what DMOZ is. The importance is wanning on all levels.

It's nice to get listed of course, but then, there is little evidence that not getting listed changes all that much.

And we actually agreed on something earlier in this thread. :)

We mostly agree again, somewhere there is a red, pitchfork toter suddenly searching for his winter coat and gloves. :D
Just adding for clarification: The Google directory is just a clone of DMOZ. So getting into DMOZ would eventually (when Google chooses to update) lead to being shown at http://dir.google.com. That doesn't mean instant gratification within Google SERPS, in fact many well ranking sites are not listed in DMOZ while many DMOZ listed sites don't rank well at all. Most so-called experts will tell you a DMOZ link is no more important than any other good link. I tend to agree with that theory.

Your right and I believe now what unique content does and how it awards you in the long run as I have received a commendation from our own tourism government for helping it promote. It will also be aired at TFC with other Philippines Tourism Site. (The Filipino Channel in the US)

I am no expert but agree with that.

It doesn't make a blind bit of difference other than those crappy so called rating sites that pay attention to you getting listed. The directory in my sig got de-listed because of someone on this forum but it never made any difference to the visitation in fact quite the opposite. By not being associated with a directory full of crap we can use it to our advantage and demonstrate how NOT to run a directory.

How do you get listed in DMOZ? After you submit a whole lot of hoping might help.

When your done with that you should submit to other directories you find quality with and at the end of the day you will have some directory listings. Just probably not in DMOZ.

You are not about to give us all another lecture on how the end user of a directory prefers hundreds of empty categories in order to minimise the risk of clicking on a dud listing are you Jamie?

FYI we'd rather have hundreds of empty categories while we rebuild that have hundreds full of crap. Lecture over.

Ah... the netherworld of the pay for inclusion directory business never ceases to amaze. To those poor souls who are not familiar with the workings of these snake oil merchants "empty categories" translates into "no one has yet been prepared to pay for a listing in this category yet"

Do you really think people don't know you have a vested interest in trying to discredit paid directories?

Cmon guys, its just a directory. If its not listed, no worries. Getting listed in Dmoz won't make anyone millionaire anyways.

The vast majority of pay for inclusion directories are nothing but a smoke and mirrors trick intended to scam webmasters into thinking that there is some benefit in parting with their hard earned money to pay for a worthless listing. Yes I am very much interested in discrediting these charlatans.

Your implication that these worthless directories are in some way a competitor to the ODP is part of the web of delusion that is spun around the pay for inclusion industry.

I don't think I need to comment any further, my post above said it all. I could rip into dmoz content and fully justify why using volunteers is intrinsically flawed and use tens of thousands of links either dead/lead to porn/poorly edited/misdirected to wrong sites/ and more as examples, but I'm not doing their job for them, they have people like you to do that.

All's well that ends well - I'm (currently) a Dmoz editor - and I've discovered that Dmoz is well and truly already in the coffin waiting to be nailed shut.

I'm actually told Randy and Ronald are away to the DIY store today to pick up a few wood screws.

The use of volunteers is not flawed, its just not everyones perfect idea for a directory. Its ok though, there are plenty of other options out there to choose from, for those that don't like the volunteer nature of DMOZ.

And it turns 10 years old in a few days. :) If you really are an editor, then you can see for yourself the various things that staff has going on at the moment.
