confused about PageRank

Does anyone know if I accept lots of PR0 links to my site can it actually make my PageRank worse? Should I only accept links to my site from sites with a PageRank as high as mine or higher to improve my PR?

    Thanks.

No, you can accept any. Each link with PR0+ apparently rise your real (not toolbar) PR count.

You can accept Both Links, 0 PR Links from FREE Organic SEO Techniques or related high PR Links from Link exchange campaign.

but just keep in mind, never create Bad neighborhood with your site, focus in Quality and relevancy Links.

    Thanks

If your a website have good traffic, then there is no harm in exchanging links with it.

    Thanks.

Also, I've noticed one of my sites got 50-100 visits per day while I updated daily but I stopped updating it for a week and have been getting 0 visits (not an exagerration) for the last 2 weeks - so is it fair to say updating a website plays a very significant role in rankings?

Search engines seem to really make you work hard to stay on top.

Sounds like something's wrong with your traffic tracker (google analytics? urchin?). Dropping from 50-100 to 0 doesn't sound right... check the tracking code.

And no backlink will ever harm you. Take any backlink you can get. It doesn't matter.

But, as said above, higher PR/high authority/relevant backlinks are what you should be going for. I tend to stay away from link exchanges, as they're usually of little to no relevance.

You may as well accept any link you get, since you can't do anything about it any way.

that's exactly why a backlink will never harm your PR/SERP.

if that were the case, i could make a million porn sites, and link them all to my competitors over and over again to drop their rankings. that would never happen.

relevancy is the first thing you should look for. having your link on a pr0 site with the same keywords as yours is way better then having a link on pr4 with no relation to your topic
also, check how many outgoing link the site you're trading with has. the more it has, the less one single link counts

that's a great point... a site can be PR0 today, but in 6 months that same site (page) could be PR6

No, it won't make your PageRank worse. In fact, if those sites' PageRanks increase, you can see one as well. Just bear in mind I'm specifically speaking about the pages those links to your site are on - not their home page. (PageRank is based on PAGES, not sites - so there's no such thing as a PR7 site - only a PR7 page.)
