Your brain is the best "SEO software". But "web CEO" and "advanced webranking" are also good tools to help you.

And of course keywordelite and wordtracker (service) for keywordresearch, also seoelite can't hurt to use. But the features from seoelite can also be found for free online.

Just now that software cannot replace people in the case of SEO.

But here are some valuable links to some free online tools:
tool.motoricerca.info/spam-detector/ (see whether you have some spam elements on your site)

seoworkers.com/tools/analyzer.html (automatic seo analysis, what you asked for I think, but the tool is not "gospel" use your brain when analysing the results)

tools.seobook.com/ (some good tools which can save time)

    webconfs.com/ (many other good tools)

    Have fun with it!

IMO none of these programs are worth spending money on.

All of the information they teach you is available freely on the internet. I think people just may be able to understand it better because since they purchased said program, they feel they have to get their money's worth and learn what's it's teaching.

Basically, these programs have pre-written letters you're supposed to send to webmasters asking for links (you will NEVER get a link using the text they prepared, at least not any that will count), tools for checking backlinks, competitors, keyword density, and on and on. Most of the time, the program will be using a tool that's available for free, and if they don't use a freely available tool and program their own, the free tool is usually better!

The only application you really need for SEO is Mozilla and maybe a couple plug-ins for it like Web Developer. And for the organizing aspect, bookmarks!

The problem with FREE is there is no real way to evaluate the effectiveness of "Free" unless you download and try it. And if it's a dud, then you are out your investment in time.

Paid solutions may or may not be better. But you would expect them to be better wouldn't you?

Make sure there is a money back guarantee. Who spends their time building software to give away?

Time is your most valuable asset (If you have a business plan and know how to manage it).

So if you find a PAID tool you like. Buy it and then put it to work. While the other people are out chasing "Free" you'll be moving your projects forward.

Is "Free" really free if you consider your investment in time? Hardly.

For people with one or two sites then doing things manually may be a good idea. But if you have many sites and projects going at once software to manage your SEO Efforts becomes incredibly valuable.

The whole mindset of "FREE" is the only way to go can really set you back. You are either in business or you are not. Was your computer free? Your Internet Access? Your ....

The point is yes it's important to know if a product that costs X amount can deliver value, but Free or Paid is not the issue in the value equation. The issue is will the software help me archive what I am trying to accomplish in my business?

I buy most of my software, but I also use FREE software if it's right for the job.

Firefox has some good SEO plug ins that are free.

But the question again you really have to ask yourself is "Is this software best for what I am trying to do?".

So for small sites or few sites and people who have zero resources and too much time, then chasing down all the free tools could work out for you.

For business people finding a solution and then moving on is the best practice.

The best SEO software is the human brain, nothing beats the experience a human SEO expert has. SEO software can be at most be used to automate certain parts of the process but certainly can't replace humans.

I do not know what is the best (if exists at all) I know the most effective way to over-rank competitors – just spy them and make things better. Build a keyword list you want to get good rank for and check the websites on the first page of Google natural result. Try to guess why google trust them to rank them on the top 10? Compare them each anther and to your website…. Investigate differences… and just make your website a bit better.

This is a hard work…you may do it using only free tools. You even may do it without using any tools. But way to waste your time and effort instead of buying a professional software?

Imagine you have more than two websites – are you able handle all of them, optimize them and track result by hand??? I so not think so..

Some of the softwares do something valuable, they let you analyze your competitor's to see how they are getting their rankings (see where they get their links). Certainly something you could do yourself though.

Brain + hands + fingers + experience + text editor + browser = best "software".

    Seriously.

So many blogs and forums advise against SEO software. For me I just do it manually and at least I know for sure I am making steady progress. If I can get some good links in, create and submit a few unique articles each week then I know that Im making solid progress. Once your on a role manual SEO doesnt take too long. 5 solid hours a week you can get plenty done.

IMO I would have to say seo elite and keyword elite are great. I think most people think these programs are a magic button to replace your own manual seo work. Mainly what I've found is that these programs are "time savers" I used to do seo manually, and frankly it takes a lot of time. You've got to try and contact pages for links add their link to your site, send an email to them showing where their link is, then if they end up rejecting you, you have to take their link down. Imagine doing this for 100's or even 1000's of sites manually. Seo elite pretty much automates that system for you. You can type your competitors website into the software, and it will bring up every link that is pointing to them, and also give you the contact info for the webmasters or link submission forms and then let you automatically email your link request to each of those websites from within the software. I definitely think it's worth the money for the time you'll save. And I'm in no way affilliated with the product. I hope that helps

That you can. I did. And I almost didn't graduate high school (though that was another matter, and there are times I regret not filing suit against the school district and the police department for accusing me of plotting to blow up the campus during my own graduation or holding me under house arrest during said time - oh well).
