Sabotaging Competitors off of Google

Has anyone here ever sabotaged their competitors off of Google , or knew of someone that did???

I was reading an article on Forbes.com, about 7 ways it can be done..... and #1 was "Google Bowling".... the other was tattling (dropping a dime on them)

Goog bowling was basically being a spammy website and linking to them, and then basically notifying Google somehow

I also read on this forum about people actually getting hacked and pointing out tons of spam links!

How can you protect yourself from this?

Also, if it does happen -- can you fight it with Google???

I've read somewhere (maybe in this forum) that this doesn't work anymore.

I notice Google encourages you to "snitch"

I can't stand tattle tails.... but you know something..... with a few clicks of the mouse....

I've read about this happening before...

... before they know they've even been hacked Google has penalised them... I presume because the hacker tips them off...

Yes obviously white hat is better than black hat..... but knocking your competitors off of the SERP's ---- so that they're invisible.... geez that sounds great

Thanks for the article. Man it is scarry! Imagine if someone were to do it to you! Gives me shivers! I am sure Google will find a way to deal with it in time.

I think rather than sabotaging our competitors it's better to crush them with the legal way

Ive had ddos attacks, images filled with pharmaceutical links put on my server code injected and various other attacks.

If your at the top of Google you just know that the guys below would love to get you kicked off. So its all about securing your server and checking your sites daily for any changes.

These attacks even if they work are only temporary if you stay in contact with the big G

Google Bowling can be done, but the reality is that it could actually benefit the competitors site if not done correctly.

Spend the time not trying to tank your competitors rankings but improving you own. :)

I've heard of people using clickbots to destroy their competitors budget/conversion rates on AdWords. That's pretty much the lowest of the low, imo, but business is business and some people will do anything necessary to succeed.

If this article is right, you can screw just about any site for $450. Read this: Google User Feedback

I know the man that wrote that article. What he says is 100% true.

    Makes you wonder huh?

Yes, I agree with you. It is unprofessional to sabotaging our competitors.

People like to say this is a black hat thing. I would disagree 100%. I do both black hat and white hat. I am involved in a very large community of black haters and non of them that I know personally would do this. I know that they are not beyond reporting redirects, spamming, ect, but I would never worry about any of the other stuff mentioned taking place.

And yes forms of this still do work. I've had it happen to some of my WH sites.

I wouldn't do it --- unless the enemy had it coming to them ----- say for instance, if they did it to me first to try to knock me out ----- it would be good to learn this stuff just to defend myself
