$60 Logo contest for Boxing Site (paid via PayPal)

Discussion in 'Design Contests' started by GlueStick, Jun 2, 2008.

My client wants me to post a logo contest and they are offering $60 to the winner. The company name is Irongloves Boxing. A rectangular logo is preferred, but also will consider square shape as well. Client may buy both shapes, depending on the entries. Only conventional western style boxing, NO kickboxing. The logo should be able to be used in multiple formats, business cards, letterhead, etc. Final version should be in vector format. No JPGs, PNGs, GIFs, etc.

We don't have too many suggestions as to want we want, we are hoping to see a lot of creativity. I've looked at every piece of clip art that pertains to boxing, so originality will be appreciated. Boxing gloves might be okay, but also maybe a tough looking boxer throwing a punch. Please follow the color scheme of the client's site, Irongloves Boxing. Client is very excited to see unique use of fonts as well. Please note: it is spelled Irongloves (all one word) and NOT Iron Gloves (two words). Payment via Paypal only, contest to run till midnight PST on June 4th, but I reserve the right to change the ending
time, especially if there's a winner right away.

This is my first post in this section, so if I have left anything out, please post here. Thanks in advance to all contestants.

Thanks for your entry. However, the colors don't match the site, and I believe that's a picture of Ricky 'The Hitman' Hatton, and I don't think he'd like it if his picture was used without his permission.

The font needs to be more unique, more distinctive as well. Maybe you could visit the client's site, IronglovesBoxing, and get a feel as to their style? The site is being completely revamped soon, but you should still be able to get an idea of the color scheme I mentioned in my first post.

Thanks again for your efforts, and I'd like to see what else you can come up with.

I'm sorry I haven't provided feedback sooner, I've been a bit under the weather.
In my opening post, I said, "Please follow the color scheme of the client's site, Irongloves Boxing. " I should have been more explicit, the client only wants logos that match the colors of their site: red, grays and black. The hexadecimal value of the red is #CC0000, the rgb value is 204, 0, 0. Sorry if this caused any confusion.

@Rachie: The client thinks you made a good start, but picture is lacking something? Maybe make the name bigger and the gloves smaller? Could you also add some spatter to the background, using same color red for both the spatters and the gloves?

@JMP Designs: The top image looks good, but could you try a font that's a bit gothic, and incorporate some red as well?

@ Ariestoteles: Client really likes your design and the font you used, but would like to know if you can make the figures a bit less cartoonish? Also, could you make it in the colors that match the client's site?

@Everyone else: Thanks for your entries, but client only wants the colors as mentioned, so please try again. Also, the client wants me to make sure to make it clear that when they buy the logo from the winner that the client will own all rights in perpetuity to the image(s), and the designer/winner is willing to forgo all claim to the image(s) once payment has been made.

The contest closes at midnight PST tonight, and I plan on staying close to DP most of the day in case anyone has any questions.

Thanks to all the entrants, your hard work is very appreciated.

Oh gosh, that is the one question I have problems figuring out. I believe it's -8, and if I'm wrong, I'll post a correction shortly. Thanks for asking, and I look forward to your entry. :)

Thanks for your entry. Can you change the boxers shorts to a different colors, maybe black and white, or light gray? Also, can you use a capital I in the name, instead of lower case? Thanks

The client has decided that using figures/men/combatants won't look good, they say it kind of looks like clip art, they want something more original. They want to focus on boxing gloves displayed in a unique manner with tough-looking fonts, maybe a bit gothic, but not too overdone because some gothic fonts are too decorative and elaborate.

If you don't want to incorporate the gloves, then maybe you can make a stylized/tough looking version of the company name using the company colors as I posted earlier. Thanks to everyone for their entries, and please keep them coming.

The client is willing to extend the contest till 1pm PST (-8 GMT) Friday, June 6th, if need be in order to allow more entrants to make submissions. Winner will be announced and payment via PayPal will be made immediately after the contest ends.

My client would like to know if you can make the boxer light gray without a face & "toughen" up the fonts a bit. Also, the glove on the right hand looks disproportionate, a bit too long and hook-ish on the end. My client also said, "Tell him he is one of the top choices if he can make the changes for what we are looking for."

Please make clear what you want- in your previous post you said you didn't want figures/men...now you say the last logo with a boxer is one of the top choices

    I am confused!

Sorry for the confusion, and I appreciate the chance to clarify. The client saw the earlier entries and said they weren't suitable, and decided it was easier just to say no figures. However, the client then saw the entry you mentioned and loved it.

The client also loved your work, but would like to request a few changes too:
Can you make the gloves on your boxers a bit bigger? Also, it looks like your boxer is wearing pants, could you make it look like he is wearing trunks, and also add a bit of shape to his legs & calves. Your concept is very appealing, but the client asked that you also use "tougher" fonts, and capitalize the letter B in Boxing.
One more thing, the client would like to see what it would look like if you were to put the boxer inside the letter I?

    Thanks for your entry.
