Hiring a Guest Writer is more difficult than hiring a Writer to post daily. I had a disastrous experience when I hired 2 writers from DP to post on my blog while i was on holidays. The result being 2 posts in last 2 weeks. So i have written an article on few tips for every Site or blog owner to keep in mind while hiring Guest Writers.

Feel free to comment here or on the post and do add more points if not mentioned.

i think $1 per 100 word for an unique article is very cheap. it is hard to find writers from english speaking countries for this price who will provide good quality unique articles. just like they say, you get what you pay for

Actually, most writers don't normally accept $1 per 100 words. Perhaps that's where you went wrong and should be an 8th step in your list - don't hire writers based on a low price.

I've seen articles go upwards of $1k usd. Is all about the quality, the type of writing, and the demand for the content. Technical writing is expensive and requires more skill.

This is why you had a terrible experience. If you want solid, dependable writers who will value you as a client, try paying at least triple that.

Ya i realized that only after my bad experience and I am glad i learnt it cos i wont make that mistake again. I was a bit casual and depended heavily on the writers which was also a mistake. Glad to recover from it now.

Next time you should have the posts written ahead of time and use the drip feature (set the timestamp in the future) in Wordpress to have the posts published on the days you want. That way you won't return to your blogs unpleasantly surprise.

You can also have the writer submit their posts directly to you so you can review them before posting.

Sorry about your bad experience. While it is somewhat true that you often get what you pay for, you can sometimes find someone who is fairly new to marketing their services who will charge less because they are building up their clientele and getting their name out there. I would always ask for samples of their work up front. There are a lot of people who advertise on the Warrior Forum (in the WSO section) for low prices when they need some fast money.

I think the dripfeed suggestion was really good with regards to your particular situation.

I have a different view on this issue. Quality is certainly related to the price but what committment has to do with price? It is all about the moral responsibility of a writer. If someone makes a promise then it must be fulfilled. If it is seen in relation with the high prices then does this mean that the writers who charge high(I am not saying that I charge less..) always complete their contracts in true spirits? Perhaps this issue should be looked in to afresh.

DP's B/S/T forum can make you feel shame or make you laugh. People compete lowering their rates to $0.75 or even $0.50 per 100-150 words rather than competing in improve quality heading for higher rates.

Well, when there are lots of established writers on dp, the new ones have to do something to prove themselves, so unless someone buys their articles, they cannot show their quality. So by lowering the price they are marketing themselves more effectively......

There are plenty of ways to show your quality and prove yourself without reducing your price.

Having a live blog to show samples is one :)

Having a blog is good, but maybe your life is in a mess and you require good money then wasting time writing on a blog isn't gonna help. I am just quoting different situations thats all.

Could someone tell me what the average price for a decent English speaking writer would be?
This would be for things like keyword rich product descriptions, not magazine style articles.

Everytime any serious issue is raised on Dp by someone it takes a different turn slowly. I do not know why but it always deviates towards the cheap V/s Non-Cheap writers.Shouldn't there be a writer's responsibility code or some kind of a protocol?
