Ultimate Fighting vs. Bloated Government

Should the government regulate this sport?

There was an article written by an evidently amateur journalist on comcast i believe and he 'independently' decided there needed to be some regulations. Can't find the article again though..

So what do you say, should the government force the fighters to use headgear? Will the government protect them from themselves?

Now for my bias, most people don't know that there are much less injuries in MMA (mixed martial arts) than boxing or really any sport I believe. Why? Because instead of standing there getting your head beat in for 15 rounds like you do in boxing, you take significantly less hits and may even be submitted instead.

I think the last thing our government wants to do is start something with these guys. They are fierce, and the sport is growing really fast. I'd like to see MMA win this one by a gruesome knockout.

Do I even need to chime in? :D

No regulation. It's a private sport, participants sign contracts and if the league wants to protect it's personalities, it will introduce it's own rules in conjunction with the fighters.

If Congress doesn't mandate hockey and football helmets, why would it get involved in MMA?

Have you guys ever seen retired boxers speak? Now compare their slurred speach to the speech of a retired mma fighter and then tell me if mma needs to be regulated. They actually do a great job of protecting their fighters.

For once I agree with you. Keep the government out of private organizations.

As you get smarter and better looking, this will happen more and more.

Btw, welcome back to the forums. You're really persistent.

Why thank you lol. You are not looking too bad today yourself ;)

If there is one thing that I really stand for it is privatization of almost eveything. I just know the government really cannot handle a lot of things and when they do they do it poorly and end up spending WAY more then needed.

The only way I'd be for any regulation at all is 'if' the sport turned into basically a death match, fight to the death sort of thing.

In other words as it stands absolutely not.

I think government should ban the submission part of it. When the dudes start rolling around on the floor. It's B-O-R-I-N-G. Stand up and beat each other up like men, not girls.

Actually Lorien the submission part keeps the fighters from injuring each other with head shots .

lets get them to stay away from baseball while they're at it. The hearings over steroid use were a horrific waste of time and money.
