Best Way to Outsource?

I have long since realized that outsourcing is the best way to build a business.
Where is the best place to go to find experts willing to do the technical stuff I would rather not have to do/learn?

How do you overcome security issues if you give your website password etc to a stranger overseas or the like?

Any secrets/suggestions on how to outsource say... website changes, changing blog design, setting up a membership site etc.

Shared experiences appreciated.

 

There are hundreds of sites out there. Guru.com, DP, and many more where you can find people. DP is actually a great place with people willing to do work at very acceptable prices, but it all depends on what you want to out source. For lawyers, DP is not the best place.

Or, you can go out and find real businesses. You can find them in the yellow pages or through Google. They will be more expensive, but in my experience you get what you pay for.

This is a hard one. Do not give your passwords out is the only way. If FTP, create a login name for them with only access to what you want them to have. If something else, monitor them closely. Always make backups either way and remember to change passwords ever so often as especially after someone completes a project and should no longer have access.

Also, a good way to be secure is to give out your information to as little people as possible. If you just want design work, for example, have the designer email you the files and then you can upload them yourself.

There really is not secret. Just put in a few hours of work and you will find a reputable individual/company. I advise you find a specific person/company for each job (i.e., not getting one person for all those jobs you have listed). That way each can excel at what he/she is the best at. Also, remember to get things in writing... especially when dealing at a larger monetary scale.
