Hi All, So I have a new parenting and pregnancy forum, where I have 2 moderators but over the last few weeks they have gone a little quiet. Obviously the idea of mods are to keep the forum active esp for new members to join in - I have created a new staff section on the forum and politely asked if they are having probs logging on etc then to let me know but I need them active, I only did this today and havent heard back as yet - what would you do? and how do you 'sack' mods?
Just tell them that they are not doing what is required of them and they have a chance to redeem themselves (tell them how) and if they don't become more active then just remove them as staff.
Thanks Luke, I have done that today in the staff section and made a post that they need to be a little more active and to let me know, so I guess I should wait a bit to see if they reply. I do feel terrible as my forum is only new and the thought of maybe letting them go as staff and losing them is a worry but then on the other hand the forum needs active mods - oh dear LOL.
I understand how hard it is to maintain a forum, especially when the niche is medical and health, i personally own one. You will have to be lot patient in this regard preciousbabes, keep posting interesting stuff, offer some goodies to your members and once the forum starts rocking on its own, you can spend all the nights dreaming about dollars ;-)
Thanks for the advice, I post myself daily and have articles on the forum etc. I run monthly contests there is one at the moment which is a referral contest with 3 prizes the first being $50 cash reward. Also VIP members that have actively contributed to the forum receive $25 cash reward. I dont pay my moderators and I dont really want to start doing so as the forum isn't really a money making forum its more of an interest I have, but of course they can enter the contests and have the chance to win. There is also a freebies/offers section where members can receive free samples on products etc. Patience is not something I have unfortunately lol and I keep telling myself to be patient but I just wondered at what point do you think your mods are not doing their job, as in they are not logging in etc....
Thanks jkrish41 ~ I am logged on nearly all day and post as much as possible without talking to myself lol, I am actively creating articles, discussion, replies, also sending out newsletters etc just sometimes feel that the mods should be helping a little.
can you get any more mods? Maybe hire one more to try to help you till the other ones get back on track
Umm maybe I am frugal but I think the monthly contests where you can win cash and the VIP members who receive $25 cash is an incentive to be active
Thanks ddadbofb, I may have to go down this route though I am really reluctant to pay out for moderators. I guess patience is needed and to see if they become active again.
How did you get these mods on your new forum without any reward? In any case people need motivation and nothing motivates people like money. Either mods have to be your close friends or extremely interested in the forum and what's being discussed there if you want them to be active yet unpaid.
You are going to have to add more mods and add incentives for them. There are other things than money.
The mods volunteered! the forum is very specific to discuss parenting and pregnancy you will be surprised how many people love discussing this, not for money but for interest. I totally agree Bogart and someone of my thinking lol - there are other things than money! and I dont really want people who are mods just for money they need to be interested and know what they are talking about rather than being there because of the $$$. If they want money then there are paid to post forums like Morachat etc and this is general interest. I have added more incentives today and it has perked the forum up a little though the mods havent been on, so I will wait and see.
If the forum is not getting any activity the Mods probably got bored and let's face it, it's not their job to build your website for free.
Good point but its not about building my website free, when someone applies to be a moderator on a forum they are taking on a job by their own free will - that means being active - if they dont want to be then let the Admin know! No one is building my website for free - I do that myself LOL and I put at least 10 hours a day into my forum, I wouldnt expect my mods to do the same, but I expect them to log in at least a few times. Have you checked out my forum to see the activity?
your mods might be having a baby i have a membership on my site so, if your a mod you get it free and they stay because of this.
