Love it or hate it, Vista is here to stay so we have to get accustomed to it and learn to tweak it. I think this thread would be more productive if we were discussing Vista tweaks and performance tips, rather than trying to compare one OS to another because it seems some posters here are probably having basic problems they could resolve with little effort, yet they complain about it like it was doomsday. All OS'es are unique and if everything were the same, we'd still be living in the dark ages. In my career, I've had to jump from Win boxes to Solaris, DEC, AIX, IRIX, Mac OS, Linux. They all do the same thing but the interfaces are different. All that matters to me is if I can get my work done... and somebody blaming their OS or PC for their lack of performance is like a skateboarder blaming his board for why he couldn't pop a kickflip.
lol...i have my self tested all the available major versions of Windows Vista (home basic, home premium, business, Ultimate) with all possible threats exposure. My conclusion was that Vista is not the most secure OS ever but yeah, its a secure one for sure (and better secure than XP).
I thought MS were bumping the release of their next OS forward to 2009? Even so I need a new laptop now and I'm not going to wait another year just because of the software that's on it. If the next OS comes out and it's reported as being loads better I will upgrade to that as and when. In the meantime if Vista has me pulling my hair out I'll dump it and install XP instead. The only certainty is, I want my new laptop now!
Buy an XP one now. By the time that one is ready to be binned windows 7 will have just come out probably. Don't wait just for an OS.
XP is still available, however it will be off the shelves within the next couple of months so be quick. What you could do is buy a laptop with Vista on it and see if you know anyone has an XP disc you can borrow to install onto your laptop. Most people who have brought a PC have the OS disc come with it.
Go for Vista. I use it and its working good for me. My specs are: Core2 duo 2.20ghz 2gb Memory I have heard that Windows 7 is going to release in 2010. There is no point waiting that much for Windows 7. Thanks
Vista sucks big time so stay away. In my opinion you should rather buy mac although it is more expensive. Trust me when I say you will be avoiding many problems.
Could I perhaps, if I may be presumptuous, draw your attention to this far more pressing matter: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=865276
Vista works fine for me. I don't know whats the big deal. Just buy another laptop when WINDOWS 7 comes out. By than your laptop will be very very old. (2-3 years)
Its too bad.... I think MS should release a new Windows XP version. I have heard that Windows 7 will have a provision for touch screen ?? Is it true ??
Vienna or windows 7 will be launched in 2010 .. so i dun think you will be able to wait for it. I'm using Vista Business version but as such i dont have any problem with it. I prefer vista over Xp. thats based on my expereince. But majority of people suggest you XP, you can gofor it..
Vista is a great OS although it takes a lot of resources to run. Luckily the computers comming out nowadays have the power, Vista is not meant for older computers, after all, if you strapped a Hemi to a horse and cart it would just slow the thing down, but throw it in a Mustang and zoom.
My laptop is Vista-ready but I am using Windows XP on it. Maybe wait a couple of months and see if the issues associated with Vista are ironed out.
