While typing around random domains I always get that site, I'd rather get a page not found error or a server not found error than a spam site  That seems to happen to domains not registered yet or causes some server error.

I use firefox, something must have gotten in somehow... I'm even using linux :(

Do you currently have an AV running? If so, did it detect anything at all?

By the way, what AV are you using? Thanks.

Download Hi-Jack this. Run it in safemode. Then google search for every filename that comes up and if it comes up on a spyware forum, delete it.

Generally this kind of thing Spybot will not find, since it is just a piece of web browser code.

Any software installed recently hijacked your browser's registry to modify the search page.

If you know how you can manually edit your registry and get rid or that site.

@antivirus: Hmmm... I don't think a virus was an issue here, I am using linux ... I was thinking it's a browser thing that somehow latched into my firefox... but if it was a virus, what do you think it could be?

Actually, I strongly believe it is spyware.

I could be mistaken, but it sounds too much alike the CoolWebSearch variants.
CoolWebSearch is a name given to a wide range of different browser hijackers.

I suggest you download CWShredder, & run a scan.
You can download CWShredder from here: www.intermute.com/products/cwshredder.html

Hey buddy!! Spyware attacks sometimes are really dangerous. The one which you are goin thru is a very small problem. You better use a antispyware..... I am using avg 8. its good. Even NOD32 also works awesome.... Try them and get rid of it ASAP

Guys, I do NOT use Windows! please don't suggest any more antivirus apps since viruses are very very very Rare in Linux.

Anyways, I just cleared out the trouble - I just uninstalled some firefox addons, one of them could be the culprit (Download Embedded, GEOTEK Toolbar, Megaupload SX.3.2, SEOHAND, SeoQuake) ... not really sure which of them, I don't have time to look through each one & test.
